Was that a clapping monkey in that clip?

This looks like fucking shit and I HATE anything with Russell Brand. Scumbag looks like a Victoria Undertaker.

Wow, that looks like a 2 hour "SNL Digital Video". Showgirls wept.

The video has already been taken down by the WB.

I wish they were just adapting the game instead...

I do not think this looks like a movie for me. Sorry, ROCK OF AGES people

I'm confused, is this a musical for people who don't like rock and or roll or what?

Cause I love rock, but I dunno what the fuck that just was.

The list of things I would rather do than watch this movie spans continents.

I hated, absolutely hated, Russell Brand.  Then I saw him at an event at the LA public library where he read from an Oscar Wilde children's book.  The man has charisma.  Palpable, real charisma.  He charmed me into not hating him anymore.

As far as the trailer, whatever man.  I love Tom Cruise.  The guy is a pro (wacky private life aside, which is none of my business) and gives 100% to every role he takes, which is more than we can say for 95% of Hollywood (including luminaries like Mr. DeNiro and Mr. Pacino).

I find the romanticization of the cheesy/sleazy "Hollywood: 1987!" scene completely baffling. This movie is the equivalent of one's Mom "rapping" for 2 hours.

Kill it with fire.

Surely one has to assume this appeals to people who either never lived through the awfulness the first time round or are so hopelessly lost to the past that they've convinced themselves it was some musical golden era.

It wasn't. At all.

One can only assume that in 10 years, there'll be another musical made that'll be based on the "golden age" of Post-Grunge featuring the (s)hits of Marcy Playground, Hootie & The Blowfish, The Verve Pipe, Creed, Candlebox, & Chumba-bloody-wumba.

I have, and always will love hair metal. A few examples:  CC Deville once hugged me and I have the greatest Van Halen tattoos in the world. That said, I have NO desire to see this movie. The plot is boy meets girl, girl loves stuck up rock star, and gee I wonder how this ends. When this movie comes out, I will be at home with a case of PBR and my copy of the Moscow Music Peace Festival aka the day metal killed communism.

Whoa.  Did you get a contact smack habit?

No and CC did coke, not smack.

You know, it's funny... I was wondering as I typed that joke if you were the type of fan who would try to inform me about what kind of drugs he actually did.

I never pass up a chance to show off my knowledge of old school heavy metal.

It would be awesome if the Queen musical, We Will Rock You, was made into a movie.

Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin are aces but this trailer hurt me.

Cruise seems to be bringing a little Frank T.J. Mackey. And it's good to see Catherine Zeta Jones working again.

That's the total of anything nice I have to say about that trailer.

Awww fuck, am I the only dickhead here who really wants to watch this?

Ken! Ken Savage! Where are you mate? I need back up here!

Also regarding Brand, I have always understood why someone might not take to him but I kind of fell in love with him during his RE: Brand days.

See how he takes on Mark Collett (famed BNP nut) and calls him on his utter, utter bullshit.

But guys...

It's from Adam Shankman.

Director of Hairspray.

Seriously guys..

Seriously...

Guys..

I should be all over that movie's cock like a nineteen year old coed in her first Spring Break. But ewww...

It can't be a coincidence that this trailer hits the SAME WEEK that Cable returns.

I fondly remember the days when "jukebox musicals" of this sort were relegated to Las Vegas where they belong. Dammit, Broadway audience, discriminate! Or we'll end up with "Austin Powers: The Musical: The Movie, Baby!" in under 5 years.

I've always enjoyed him in films and his radio show was brilliant but his stand-up turns me right off. I've never seen RE:Brand though.

See, as amusing as Baldwin can be on 30 ROCK, this whole idea that he's now a comedy star rubs me the wrong way. He's a master thespian, and I'd much rather see him acting than delivering stupid dialog about how a rock venue will be filled with puke

I've had more than enough Baldwin comedy for one lifetime

Same goes for Cruise, the guy needs to pick better projects

Rainbow is awesome. I prefer them to Deep Purple.

Difficult to Cure is one of those Albums I can listen to over and over.   Also it has one of the best Album covers ever made.

Rainbow were indeed awesome, and don't deserve to be quoted alongside noxious 80s Poodle Rock (Sorry Ken)

I've never seen the stage show of Rock of Ages, but the whole thing always stank to me of limp, lame faux-nostalgia for people who would never have been caught dead listening to any of these bands until they were packaged into some bullshit semi-ironic musical. This trailer has done nothing to sway me from that opinion.

And it looks it. Ugh. But I like the cast and the music era. I'm so friggin conflicted. At least there's no Travolta in drag and fat suit. redface.gif

I adore musicals in general. When I got older I started liking the music of the era too. I went from a hard core heavy metal "Fuck those sissies" point of view to realizing that a lot of these songs were quite kickass. I think it happened after I listened to, after years and years, Kickstart My Heart. I should be a prime target for something like that. But it misses. And by a wide margin.

I think that directors nowadays cannot direct a musical properly. They either seem too bored, ashamed, or too gay.

Couldn't even watch the whole trailer. I get the feeling this is going to end up being featured on the How Did This Get Made? podcast  next year.
