Daniel Day plays presidential dress up, strolls with Spielberg.

That's the real Dark Knight right there.  Can't wait.

My god, simply stunning. It's becoming harder and harder for me not to fall head over heels with hype for this movie. I'm ecstatic that the sullen Neeson has been tossed overboard in favor of DDL. He's the only man alive on the planet today who could make this work, and I'm getting pretty darn excited to see the DEFINITIVE screen Lincoln

That picture makes me so god-damn happy.

Somewhere on the set of Taken 2, Liam Neeson is silent weeping.

I dunno, I get the sense of Neeson taking pay cheques on autopilot since the tragic death of Natasha Richardson.

Didn't Neeson say he was too old to play the part at this point anyway?

This is what I've been saying all along. I like the guy, but he's just humorless and sullen on screen now, as if he's swamped by personal darkness and throwing himself into whatever work comes his way. Its' tragic, but he's no longer a compelling actor. I'm very pleased that LINCOLN dodged a bullet with his casting. He'd have ruined the movie

He's only five years older than Day-Lewis.

Well I didn't say it, RD!  Don't shoot the messenger.

(oops. too soon?)

Have you not seen that clip of Neeson on Ricky Gervais's new show?

I'm really looking forward to The Grey.

The Grey sounds cool, I'm looking forward to it as well

But that Gervais clip's humor was entirely predicated on Neeson's humorless onscreen persona. I feel like his agent was aware that there was a problem with how his client was being perceived, and so set up the Gervais thing in an attempt to downplay it

It didn't help because it only reminded me that is how Neeson is in every movie these days

PS I did laugh when Gervais tried to say they were busy and Neeson just cut him off, and repeated his statement that "He'd like to do some improv now" with a slightly more threatening voice

I have never been as hyped for a movie as I am for this one. Return of the King might come close, but you already sort of knew what you were getting with that one.

So, what's the over / under on Spielberg entirely glossing over Lincoln's semi-closeted homosexuality?

That'll be saved for the sequel, Lincoln's Beard: The Journey Of Mary Todd Lincoln.

It would be sort of reckless to include that sort of historical innuendo though, wouldn't it? There have been a couple of authors pushing that angle, obviously, but there's really nothing in the way of concrete evidence. Contemporary minds just have a hard time wrapping their minds around the fact that manliness and sexuality were handled differently back in the day. I still compliment my homies on their fine and lithesome thighs all the time.

I wonder if Lincoln will break down and weep about slavery at the end.

Yep. No doubt the film will feature a slow motion scene at the end where Lincoln, covered in sweat, pounds away passionately on top of Mary Todd (or a guy named Todd, I dunno) in a montage that's intercut with brutal slavery imagery.

Abraham Lincoln uses the Pre-Cogs he keeps in the White House basement to have John Wilkes Booth arrested and hanged.

...thus defeating the Nazis. Somehow.

By the way, didn't we already see Neeson play Lincoln when he said "I didn't come here to free slaves" in The Phantom Menace?  Trying to maintain the balance of the Force... that was like preserving the Union.
