If I were a poor black kid...

This is a forbes article that has been lighting up the net recently, and I'm convinced it was written to drive traffic to the site.  Nobody would write something so ludicrous, and out of touch with reality:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/quickerbettertech/2011/12/12/if-i-was-a-poor-black-kid/

Unless the guy is actually serious...then another question would be, are there other people who think like him?  Do people in this country actually believe the system treats everyone equally and hard work is all one needs to succeed?  And that it's possible for EVERYONE to suceed?

I read that earlier in the week. The guy has no clue what's up. "Use the computers at your school library!" as if public schools hadn't been systematically ruined over the past few decades

"Write computer code - even if it's not your interest - because that's how I, a rich white person, earn my living!"

It's LOL worthy stuff

If I was a poor black kid? I'd get militant about getting the constitution rewritten so that everyone has equal access to education, housing health care and food. Trying to play by the FORBES rules will only get you steamrollered in life, if you're one of the serfs

It's hard to believe people think like this.  It's not even about race as much as it is about class, and the class system in this country has widened into a chasm, with that chasm having an old, dilapidated bridge that isn't reliable enough to cross.  If you're poor AND black, forget it.

Plenty of people escape terrible circumstances, but that doesn't prove much of anything.  Plenty of people also win the lottery and get struck by lightning...he seems to suggest those that don't, lack motivation and IQ.

Yes, if those realities are not readily apparent to you, you're part of the problem. I hope this guy comes back in his next life as a poor black kid for real

It was definitely written to drive traffic. Don't click on the link.

Here are two of my favorite responses:

Wow, this article has exploded everywhere this morning. Hopefully, some poor black kid out there will write the rebuttal: "If I Were A Dumb, Middle-Aged White Guy".

Not a poor black kid, but a good rebuttal still: If I were a Rich White Dude.

Psst. Scroll up two posts. :)

Well shouldn't I read past the beginning of a link.

If I were a poor black kid I'd stop giving me that dirty look when I say I don't want to buy a candy bar. It's nothing personal, I just don't eat that stuff like I used to. As if me not buying that Krackel is the final nail in the coffin of your marching band. Don't put that all on me.

There's only one white man who's qualified to talk about what it's like being a poor, black child & his name is Navin Johnson.
