Was Brandon Lee cast for any movies post-Crow?

Hi all, just wondering if there were any rumors as to movies Brandon lee might have been cast in/considered for after The Crow.

I've always heard that very early on when the Wachowskis were writing THE MATRIX they had Lee in mind for Neo. He died long before THE MATRIX really got into serious development but that's the story anyway. Also, supposedly he was up for Johnny Cage in the MORTAL KOMBAT flick.

Read an interview with Jonathan Hensleigh a long time ago where he stated that his "Simon Says" script was considered by FOX at one point to be used as the basis for a sequel to RAPID FIRE. Eventually FOX liked the script so much and felt it would work even better for one of their tentpole franchises, so that script was then morphed into DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE.

I have heard rumors that Brandon was to star in a "Game of Death" type movie. He was to take a martial arts style his father taught him and take on the 5 masters who killed his dad.

Wow Matrix with Lee could have been legendary.  Just rewatched The Crow, still holds up very well and it's a great comic book movie.

I still need to read the source material.

I can't wait for Josh to do his FRANCHISE ME posts with The Crow so we could talk more about it.

/hint hint, nudge nudge

Brandon really was a talent. It still stings all these years later.

Agreed.  It has some really fine moments in The Crow.  The scene with Ernie Hudson on the street as well as the one in his apartment are pretty great.

It's been a long time since I read it but my feeling was that the film improved on the comic a lot, adding more character and mysticism.  The book seemed to me mostly just about the harshly inked murdering of mooks contrasted with long stretches of Draven moping around their old room whispering "Shelley!" in delicate watercolour.

By all means read it.  As I said it's been a while (and then some).  At the time its fame seemed inseparable from its backstory as a cathartic work for O'Barr.  I would even point to it as something that helped that notion of angry goths seriously plotting murderous revenge on those who have wronged them.  Which isn't a terribly goth thing to do.  It might even be a marker for when goth and emo started to diverge.  But I might be over doing it there.

Anyway, it also looks nice, so that helped it too.

No you don't. It's not very good. The movie is vastly better than the source material.

Damn, that script really made the rounds.  It was apparently over at WB at one point and retooled into a potential Lethal Weapon sequel.  Nothing came of it and it ended up back at Fox and turned into Die Hard 3.

Better villains, aside from Funboy, I'll grant. Better storytelling? This is so very incorrect.

The comic is fucking terrible. "I love you so much that my heart hurts when you're away." Oof.

For the record I think Keanu did career best work in MATRIX, and I do not believe that Lee would have been an improvement. Against all logic, Keanu is truly iconic in those films

I liked the comic when I was a kid, but I'd be lying if I said my tastes hadn't evolved since then, so I have no idea if I'd still like it now. If you're interested, give it a shot, because even with my shitty memory, I'm certain it's several notches up from half of the completely insular, ass-out terrible superhero comics that are being gobbled up by fanboys today.

Outside of that, not sure if the OP's question couldn't have been answered by the Wizard of Google.

Brandon Lee signed a 4 picture movie deal with Fox, right after Rapid Fire.  He was fast-tracked for super stardom; he would've been huge.  Too bad we didn't get to see it pan out.

I'm always fascinated by the roles that actors were either signed or close to signing before they died. It's the what might have been of movies.

I'm sure there would have been a direct sequel to The Crow starring Lee had he lived. He was signed for two more films.

He apparently regretted turning down a role in A Few Good Men.

If The Crow did well there was talk of him being in The Crow 2.

I mean, there probably was.

Except I did try Google, not much to be found.  Not to mention other than that, in theory many roles would've been offered post release, we know why that couldn't happen.

Leaving only remnants of info between signing his deal and his death.

I'd read the Game of Death remake rumour mentioned above years ago in a magazine, although I forget the name. I remember hoping they'd bring back the yellow onesies jump suit and make them cool.

The guy was awesome, physically an ass kicker and had terrific comic timing. He was the reason Showdown in Little Tokyo was my go to sick day movie for years.
