AMAZING SPIDER-MAN CONTINUES TO LOOK PAINFULLY BLAND IN 7 NEW PICTURES

It's good that Sony managed to nab the crew and locations from MTV's Teen Wolf for this shoot.

Garfield is a wonderful actor, but every time I see him, my eyes are immediately directed towards his hair. Look at that fucking hair. Such body and volume!

When did Leary get cast?!?

Though I like many of the actors in this movie, the very existence of a SPIDERMAN reboot depresses me since this story was told in cinemas not but 10 years ago. It is a worrying sign for the future of cinema, and I hope it's rejected by audiences

Thankfully if they keep putting out boring, cheap looking photos like this, I may get my wish

Except in that first pic, where I'm unable to take my eyes away from his arms. That's close to Chris Evans level of jacked-ness, especially on such a normally skinny kid

Here's the difference between Garfield and Maguire: look at that first still. Anyone really think a kid that put together is going to have ANY problems in the social hell of high school? With the great hair, the super-lean arms, and that handsome, manly jawline? Bitch all you want about the lack of smartass quips, Maguire looked like a dweeb who spent every day of school getting shat on. And just like making Parker's parents the focus of his angst robs the character of quite a bit of his potency, making him so goddamn pretty robs him all that much more.

And I hate that, because goddamn, you KNOW Leary is perfect for Captain Stacy.

The cast is hard to deny here, but the feeling of same-ness is overwhelming.  I'm all for a new interpretation of the character, but I wish we were catching up with him mid-stream.  The prospect of another origin is really killing my buzz for this.  I want to see Spider-Man being Spider-Man, not awkwardly discovering his powers again.

SPOILER: The hair is the real villain of this movie.

Yep, still not interested in this flick.  Which is a shame because the cast of actors is actually pretty amazing (no pun intended.)

When everything out there for this movie makes you wish for more of Dafoe's ridiculous Green Goblin costume, you know this can't be good.

Is Leary morphing into Gary Busey in that picture?

It's Dennis Leary as Emilio Estevez playing Captain Stacey.

I like the fact that the webshooters look like they're made from watch parts.

But it makes that ridiculously over-designed suit even more nonsensical.

I never thought I would see the day where I would actually contemplate skipping a new Spider-Man film in the theater for a later home rental down the line.

Never was a fan of Maguire's mopey version of Peter Parker. So i am going to give this a shot.

BTW Emma Stone looks far too old to be in highschool. It's absurd casting

Very sad that I agree with this.

I'm all for different interpretations of Spider-Man, even a Spidey not for nerds, as this seems to be. But everything about this seems dramatically unappealing.

-Garfield is indeed too beautiful for this role. He'd easily nebbish his way into some cute nerd-girl's bedroom with that look.

-Marc Webb?

-For the considerable change to Raimi's work, they're too chickenshit to lose all those fans. As a result, it doesn't look much different than the Raimi films, other than being flatter and more TV-ish.

-Mechanical web-shooters will never make sense on film. How is he not making ridiculous amounts of money from this incredible invention?

-Rhys Ifans sucks, always has, always will. What a void.

-The story seems to be borrowing from the Ultimates, which could mean that Parker's parents will be responsible for the symbiote. Considering Gwen Stacy works at OsCorp, this sets the sequel stage for Green Goblin AGAIN or more goddamned Venom.

-Is this damn thing going to be as somber as the trailers make it seem? Super-serious Spider-Man won't translate.

And, unrelated to the movie, they way they booted Raimi was really goddamned cold. Can't say I'm not rankled by that.

I am going to go home, and listen to my Super Furry Animals albums, and cry.

But seriously, I can't work up an ounce of enthusiasm for The Unnecessary Spiderman.

By the time I scrolled down and read the rest of the posts, I'd forgotten what I wanted to say. That's you all over, AMAZING REBOOT.

Oh come on, they aren't going to give you twenty shots from the big action climax, for fuck's sake.  These shots don't influence my thoughts of this film in any way.

"Spidermeh" is what I say out loud anytime I even think about this movie.

True, but they should give us something that makes us want to see it.  And so far the havent.

Personally i like what we've seen so far. Emma Stone especially.

Was this reboot neccesary? Probably not. But i don't mind seeing another take on Spiderman (since i didn't care much for the Raimi films).

What a waste of a perfect Gwen Stacy. I mean visually, she's so spot on it's freaky. I just can't believe these are official stills.

I'm waiting with bated breath to see what Marc Webb can deliver in his action climax with half the budget of a typical tentpole these days. I'm sure those 20 minutes will make up for all the boring, ugly, and redundant bullshit I'm promised by what I can see.

The way Vic Armstrong and the stunt crew made it sound the reboot definitely has a $200 million+ price-tag.

I believe that anyone who doesn't think this reportedly 80 mil. movie will be 90% teen angst/10% weak-ass CG is fooling themselves. And I'll keep on believing it until I see A LOT more of it. A whole lot more.

As far as I know this figure was given by some dude who supposedly had a bit part. Not Vic Armstrong. Who being a professional wouldn't just blurt out a number in contrast to the one the studio that employs him gives.

I don't doubt this will mostly teen angst with little superhero action. I just don't buy that this is going for under $100 million.

Everything released up until now does not say 200+ mil. to me. I really need to see more.

Spider-Man is my Batman, and while TDKR will no doubt be the better movie this year (by a mile) I can't help but be hopeful and a bit excited by a new Spider-Man movie.  Here's hoping it doesn't suck completely!

Looks terrible.  And I'm not a Spidey fan.  Pass.

A part of me hopes it tanks. Only if it's truly awful of course. But seriously, it'd be nice for one of these reboots to lay a turd and put a cooler on this terrible trend.

Inevitable to happen.

Will we be able to understand what The Lizard is saying?

Hey, Dylan Baker's a good actor. I'm sure we'll be able to understand.....

What's that? The guy from Little Nicky!

They really needed to throw Morbius in this if they wanted to bait some of the Twi-hards (which is what it looks like to me). That franchise is nearly complete.

After Raimi talking up Morbius a few times, and an excised scene from one of the "Blade" movies that supposedly features a heavily costumed Morbius, I'm sick of being cock-teased. Get me Morbius now.

Is that available anywhere?

Yeah, I've long been for a Morbius stand-alone or inclusion into a Spidey tale.

I've been told its on either the first or second DVD, but it sounded like the character was unrecognizable, so I never bothered.

I guess we'll get confirmation when there's a cease and desist notice sent out for this but...

The grainy picture on that Spidey controller looks familiar as well:

That's common sense right there. Like most Chewers, the thought of wading through Spidey's origin again doesn't excite me, but I'm still interested to see what Webb and the talented cast (particularly Garfield) bring to this - and a few snapshots set around high school lockers aren't going to change this. Sure, they're dull photos, but If they'd released a shot of The Lizard wreaking havoc  we'd all be lamenting the flatness of his face and the fact that his slacks aren't purple.

Is Louis Gossett Jr. playing the Lizard?

It's so obviously not these shots alone influencing anyone here. All of the material out there for this film makes it look incredibly dull. Also to be perfectly honest I don't even begin to understand why people would be excited about Garfield in anything, especially not as a leading man. I don't see that going over very well.

The reason they're not showing any of the sort of things that make people want to see movies like this is simple: it's a relatively low budget Spidey flick.

I can't wait for all the nerds to angrily call this the "Spider-Man" film "for girls!"

Well when I saw "The Social Network", I was aware that Garfield had been cast as Spider-Man, so I watched his performance with that in mind and it got me excited for this because he showed vulnerability, conviction, and a morally upright dignity in the role that convinced he could be an ideal Spider-Man. My interest in the movie has steadily waned since, however, with the other, more questionable casting choices, the trailer, and the information that's been put out about its plot. Emma Stone is another promising casting choice, although she's always seemed like a more ideal Mary Jane (even if she's a natural blonde), but some of the others are baffling.

I haven't seen "Rescue Me" (Leary's heroic in that, right?), so I still think of Denis Leary as a comedian who perfected a smarmy asshole persona, and that's what he's brought to every role I've seen him in. And Rhys Ifans has almost always played a drunk or a slacker (albeit a charming one) in any movie I've seen him in, so he's one of the last guys I'd think of as a promising villain for a comic book movie (I tend to expect people with gravitas for such roles). I know I'm typecasting, but it's hard not to when the movie involves actors who have played such well-defined types so many times.
