An amazing look at the logistics of one of the largest-scale productions of all time.

Fascinating. I really liked the diary explaining the 3D process. I knew you had to use 2 cameras, but I had no idea that you could basically stick them together to effectively make one camera. That has to make it a lot easier. I thought they had to be positioned separately at specific angles.

I have no clue what Jackson is doing, but yes they need to be spaced at the same angle as human eyes. You can't just stick em at random angles unless you want your 3D to put a whammy on people's heads

Anyway I'm not going to watch these. I didn't watch em for LOTR, and I'm not going o start now. It just spoils you on everything. Instead of being in the moment with the movie, you're thinking about the behind he scenes stuff that helped the scene or shot come into existence

The most comforting thing in all of these videos has been the complete lack of any sense of "Ugh, these goddamn things again" from the cast and crew.

I've already made a promise to myself and whoever it is I end up marrying that our honeymoon will be in New Zealand, although she won't know that the real reason will be so we can go to the now really-there-for-real Hobbiton.

Actually, if I'm marrying her, she will have floated the idea herself first. Guy's gotta have his standards.

I'm not going to remember the details of a production blog 1 year from now. Certainly not enough to ruin the movie.

Ya....especially not a movie based on a nearly 75 year old book. Hard to spoil anything really, and they're careful revealing anything they want to be a surprise (like Smaug for instance).

I feel an absurd amount of irrational and unearned pride watching these things.

So glad Hobbiton will be for reals now. I drive through Matamata once or twice a year but being a spoiled bastard I've never toured the locations. Once PJ and co are done filming Hobbiton and we humans are allowed to visit I'll sure as heck be swinging by.
