Daniel isn't keen on a POINT BREAK remake.

Here is a CRAZY idea. Why not make a movie about extreme sport dudes/ bank robbers that has its own story. This way the movie isn't compared to what came before it. Especially since Point Break is a fun action flick.

Extreme sports movies in 2012.

Motherfuckers really have their finger on the pulse, don't they?

My answer to this is the same as my answer to everything. Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

And wingsuits.

I have a great idea for this sequel. Rather than use it in a screen play of my own, I will share it in the spirit of CHUD:

I think they should have to HALO JUMP from a high altitude balloon, straight down from the upper atmosphere at the edge of space, to a location a continent away with pin point precision in order to stage a daring robbery

They'd have helmet mics, so they could deliver dialog / have a rumble in mid air

This is based on a documentary I once saw that depicted such an event going down, only without a heist or a fight in midair

I saw a similar documentary: it was called Star Trek.

Swap out Tom Hardy for Thomas Jane and I'm with ya.

This would be more exciting because you'd have people literally at the edge of space on a floating platform, who then jump out, free falling for 15 minutes in a massive sequence

The documentary I saw was about an air force guy who did that. His glove broke up there and his hand got all puffy and gross because of the blood rushing into it. He jumped out over Africa, and came down 15 odd minutes later in Ohio or something

I think it would be really neat to see that done in real time with photo real effects and real skydive stunt work

If you have the resources to do a HALO jump from orbit, you don't need to be robbing banks.

I wouldn't have them rob banks, I'd have them heist something rare or valuable instead, from a super high security environment like the G20 summit or something

Maybe the The Fabulous Baseball Diamond.

Isn't there that fabulous movie trope of rich people doing things like robbing banks just because it's fun?

I say we go Nick Frost as Utah and Simon Pegg in a bad wig as Bodhi. If we're going to have to do this, let's meta the fuck out of it.

EDIT: In fact, that would be Point Break acting as a meta Hot Fuzz referencing itself AS Point Break. Perfect. Let's get this to the multiplexes and make some brains bleed.

I think the new robbers should be OWS style ANONYMOUS masked anarchists, intent on causing mayhem and spectacle to further their ends

Johnny Utah is sent by the CIA to infiltrate them

But some of Bodey's compatriots are just straight up crooks, and end up betraying him and his ideals, giving the Utah character license to hunt down the remaining guys

There's already a remake with a CRUCIAL change....

Wasn't there supposed to be a full-on sequel to this a few years ago by the original writer? What became of that?

Yep, Point Break: Endo.  Jan de Bont was going to direct it and Swayze was supposedly earmarked for a Bodhi cameo.  No Johnny Utah though.  Anyway, it never managed to get off the ground.

How where they going to explain Bodhi surviving?

He became one with the water and surfed all the way to New Zealand.

Brah.

The Power of Mullet?

I find that acceptable.
