YES, YOU’LL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND BANE IN THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

A new mix for the prologue suggests they want you to understand what the villain says.

But will we be able to understand Batman?

Apparently this ain't true, or WB P.R. and the Sound/Post department have their wires crossed. The hoax is pretty detailed if that's the case.

Wha?

Though I've only seen the trailer and not this extended opening clip, I can tell you I never had any doubts I'd be able to understand Bane. I think people who couldn't hear were either not listening closely, or were watching pirated footage with a bad sound mix. I'm actually sorry that the studio saw fit to change the mix of Nolan's film, simply because some people talking to eachother and munching popcorn claim they couldn't hear the dialog

So you think you can make an informed opinion without being informed?

How would you know why people couldn't hear it if you have no idea what they're hearing?

Because I saw people talking about his voice based only upon the trailer in other threads and on other sites. Few people have seen the full opening but many have seen the trailer, and I feel qualified to comment on his voice on that basis

Ah yes, the Internet.  The bastion of truth and non-exaggeration.

We gotta start a fund to get Kate into an IMAX showing of MI4 with the prologue!

And then quiz her.  QUIZ HER HARD.

The ultimate test of her unparalleled ability to decipher accents!  Like she did with Blood Diamond!

I like how clear Bane apparently is, given that some of his dialogue occurs when he's wearing two masks.

Two!  That's like, twice as many masks as he normally has on.

Ironically, I probably understood him best in the prologue when he had those two masks on.  Of course, it helps that what he was saying to directly connected to the context of the hammy CIA agent pretending to shoot and throw the others off the plane.

I'm sure Kate agrees with you mcnooj.

I was hoping they would make Tom Hardy sound like The Humungus, thus making any scenes he had with Batman automatic comedy gold

Haha, I'd support this wholeheartedly if only there were a nearby IMAX. I am looking forward to MI4, especially the Burg Khalifa sequence

Anyway, I know apparently I'm better at deciphering accents than most people, but I really don't know why that should be. I work in a job where people will come up to me talk about how various movies or BBC shows they saw were "hard to understand", and I just can't wrap my head around it. I say "well some people lack familiarity with the accents" and they assure me that "No! They're mumbling! I hear fine but everyone in this movie is constantly mumbling!"

I get the feeling this Bane situation is something similar

Anyway, 'nuff about my miracle ears, my point has been made

Seriously Kate, what is it with you that you feel qualified to make judgment calls about things you are completely uninformed about? I've seen you do this a lot. It's like some form of mental illness.

I saw the prologue. It was hard to hear Bane about 50% of the time.

I could hear him fine in the trailer, but the prologue was unintelligible.  I had to read a transcript of his dialogue online when I got home to understand.  It had nothing to do with him wearing two masks (because I still couldn't understand him with only one mask), me not paying attention (because I was), or the scene being set on a plane (because everyone else's dialogue was loud and clear).

I'm trying to understand exactly why it's tough to hear what he's saying.  I read the transcript so now I can catch mostly what he's saying, but there's moments where I don't understand what he said and I can't understand if it's him putting weird emphasis on words, or maybe the weird sing songy way he speaks or the accent itself...
