Cartoon Network's Adventure Time & Regular Show

Ok, I'm starting to get disappointed in all of you Chewers. How has no one here posted anything about either of these shows? With all the love for the Venture Bros, I would have thought that Adventure Time at the least would get some love.

Both videos are parts from my favorite scene ever on the show.

Regular Time may not be as fantastical as Adventure Time, IMO, but just as enjoyable.

It's harder to pick short clips for this show since I find the scenes and/or episodes need to be seen entirely to get the context of the jokes.

I initially didn't think much of these shows when I saw my kid watching them, but they grew on me after a while and now actually love them. Both shows are of the kind that I am actually surprised that during certain episodes Cartoon Network isn't showing them during their Adult Swim timeslot. A lot of the jokes go over my son's head and at times are a hair away from just being totally aimed at adults. The two main characters from RS are over 18 and the recent holiday episode of AT had such a tragic scene for the show's main "villain" that it made me re-examine the character entirely.

Any of you chewers with me on the love for either or both of these shows?

Adventure Time is great!  I haven't heard of the other show though.

I'm still only in season 1, but this show's sensibilities and sense of humor is right up my alley.

Regular Show tends to come on right after AT on Monday nights.

Not sure if I'm down with this Regular Show stuff.

Adventure Time is more my speed, I love the bizarre non-sequitiers and the imaginative fantasy tropes they explore. The moment I tuned into that show's frequency was during a particularly manic fantasy moment where a princess asks Finn how old he is, and he says twelve. Then Jake, the dog, who no one asked, just says he's 28. I can't explain it, but something about that age discrepancy, and Jake's nonchalant attitude, cracked me up.

I started laughing uncontrollably pretty much every moment the Earl of Lemongrab was on screen. TWELVE YEARS DUNGEON!!!!

I love how unapologetically disturbing the show can be, while remaining hilarious. And the fact that they're getting more overt about the show being post-apocalyptic, and Finn being the last human. I'm surprised they haven't gone more into his origins--it's assumed that Jake's family raised him (after the "fell in a puddle" incident, right?)

I got hooked on Adventure Time when I was flipping through and a tiny elephant was saying she was sexy and trying to seduce some bad guys. It's the best show ever.

I love that the rainicorn just speaks Korean for no reason.

Even though it has been wrongly canceled, Flapjack, in my opinion, was, the best thing on CN besides Adventure Time. Flapjack was the best possible blend of Sponge-bob (in its glory years, with its great buddy dynamic) with the psychedelic freak-out propensity of Adventure Time. Quite the fun show that I would recommend to fellow Adventure Time devotees.

I thought she was speaking Japanese this whole time.

Even as someone who speaks it, Korean and Japanese can sound kinda similar.  Heheh

See, I thought the screaming gibberish she "spoke" in the pilot was much funnier. I'm apparently a sucker for characters who scream a lot for no reason.

I also love how the characters occasionally speak a line with a really random inflection, like when Jake says "Oh, I'll come, but only to be SURLY AND OBNOXIOOOOOOOUS."

I love the delivery of the Donut Witch.

"I am NOT MARRIED!!!!"

"Oh key...

We're meant to be.

I wanna have... your baaaby.

Oh key, you're so good to me!"

Also, Clancy Brown as the evil cat that has approximate knowledge of everything about you.

lysah: so adorable. FIRST, the leaf fell off a tree — but wait, wait, wait, wait, wait — the snail was on the leaf. The end.

In on this thread for the Adventure Time love.  I used to hear/see commercials for it all the time after waking up to Cartoon Network while my TV was left on watching Adult Swim and not really pay much attention to it.  A friend showed me some bizarre random scenes from it (like when Finn gets splashed with water and his face goes all crazy detailed in the "Ocean of Fear" episode, mcnooj82's avatar for reference) and decided to check it out.  Now I'm hooked, and my DVR is set to capture any new episodes of it.  Only one I missed is half of the Christmas episode, as my DVR didn't seem to realize that it was 2 parts.

The episode with the Magic Man is definitely one of my favorites, and the one where Marceline's father escapes from the Nightosphere and starts eating everyone's souls is great too.

I can see the charm of "Adventure Time", but it just doesnt click with me.

"Regular Show", however, kills me; there was a small marathon last night on TV, and the show won me over with the triple combo of the "My mom!", "Ello Gov' Nor" and the zombie movie episode...however, holy crap, every single time Benson flips out makes me laugh my ass off, plus, the show really carries the "hidden adult jokes" torch from "Rocko's modern life" and other classics; the episode about Mordecai trying to erase his memory of seeing Pop nakes might be the funniest fucking thing ive seen in ages.

Hence the new avatar.

I definitely agree about RS and the "hidden adult jokes". I think that with AT though, while it definitely is more geared towards silliness and child-fare, there are genuine adult moments. I would suggest watching the christmas episode (?) with the focus on the Ice King. If you don't feel heartbroken at the end, you have no soul!!!!!!!!!!

Ohhh, I saw that one...sad as hell, and a whole level of tragic for the show; hell, its kind of creepy as hell how kids see the show as some magic wonderland, while the adults in the room realize the whole postapocaliptic implications: I have to admit that the whole episode where they make fun of fanfiction is genius.

On a lighter note, holy hell, the Regular Show homage to "King of Kong" is fantastic: also, the episode where they make fun of "Dungeons and Dragons" has to be the most accurate representation of everyone's first time playing that game; the part where Rigby pulls out an adding machine slayed me; plus, this show has an all out brawl scored to "Footlose", dammit!

Also, "MY MOOOM!!!".

Eugh, fucking Regular Show. Shouldn't even be mentioned on the same internet as Adventure Time, much less the same thread.

And CHUD has long been on the Adventure TIme train...!

When Nexus-7 stopped by Seattle, he told me to check out Adventure Time .  Like so many good suggestions I'm given in my life, I didn't take it right away and had to get to it at my own pace.  But to be fair, he showed me the original pilot, which provided only a glimpse of the genius I would come to love so much.

I BLAME YOU, PIET!!!

Renn's interview with Ward later came along and sealed the deal.  And now, my Facebook Timeline looks like nothing but AT art.

Dont make me post oldbrucewayne.gif here!

I think both shows have earned and deserve some love around here; Sure, Adventure Time is the "acid trip" show (come on, the only thing similar to it is the "Yellow Submarine" movie, and we all know how that one came to be), and Regular Show is more like a "pot stupor", but both are good and miles away from the dreck of other cartoons out there.

I'll keep civilized in the face of your opinion, but only to avoid summoning something unholy...like some rabid fan of that "My little pony" show, for example.

Regular Show is a weird one. Watching it with a 7 year old becomes quite a chore as I'm constantly thrown questions like "whats that?" when something 80s/90s comes up - see VHS/SNES etc.

It just seems like it should be part of adult swim, as I don't think many kids get the references or the context of a lot of the jokes. It's quite obviously written for people over 25. Where as Adventure Time is much "out there" and so isn't as reliant on specific references to 20 years ago, the "adult" moments come from strange moments of tone and horror cliche.

However, Regular Show wins points with me, because the "Zombiepocalypse 3D" episode is loaded with "Demons" references.

I would pay good money to see you explain to that 7 year old that Mordecai and Rigby's console is a Sega Master System; the look of horror on his face when you explain about 8 bit graphics would be fantastic.

And i agree it seems weird its not an adult swim show.

Not only did I explain to him, I dug it out and turned it on. Thankfully I remembered the old master system came with that weird game, Alex something, built in.

So what was the reaction? "Your generation actually played this?" or was he amazed of it in a retro way?

Confusion I think. But mainly curiosity. But video games, I guess look mostly the same in that they have controllers and are a box under the TV. I think VHS and the cassette tape stuff confused him more, the idea that images and sound could exist on long strips of black tape.

Makes one feel old as hell, doesnt it?

Oh, and I would pay good money for a "Zombiepocalypse 3D" short; the Evil Dead/Demons reference in the episode are fantastic, as you've said earlier.

The show earned a lot of points with me for making Death look like a cross between Lemmy Kilmister and Lobo; plus, the Punchies episode "secret to mastering a martial art, 80's style" was fantastic.
