The new year brings on the greatness.

TREMENDOUS.

Note: Tom Yum Goong 2 also features Jeeja Yanin (Chocolate). If it's not the best pure action movie of the year, I'll be shocked!

My hopes are on:

Haywire - Soderbergh on a hard action film? Interesting.

The Grey - I'd watch Liam Neeson beat the shit out of anything. Even puppies.

Total Recall - Making it something entirely different from the original is good. Plus Cranston.

Looper - Willis has appeared in some duds, but JGL either has great taste or a fantastic agent picking projects for him. Damn, I just pictured JGL as McClane's son and became sad.

Taken 2 - the excuse for a sequel sounds just plausible enough to safely ignore and enjoy Liam Neeson kicking the shit out of foreigners.

Parker - That cast at least has me interested in seeing a trailer.

Cogan's Trade - Ditto

Diango Unchained - I'm not a huge Tarentino fan, but Inglorious Basterds has me warm to his highs and looking past his fetishistic lows.

Tom Yum Goong 2 - I don't get the Ong Bak 2/3 hate. Any movies that feature a kid fighting a crocodile and ELEPHANT-FU can't be that bad. Edited from two movies down to one, you'd probably have a fantastic film.

At any rate, I could not be more psyched for TYG2. Jeeja Yanin was amazing in Chocolate, and Tony Jaa belongs on the Martial Arts Mount Rushmore alongside Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, and... whoever wins the steel cage match for the fourth spot.

I'm all for TYG2 being a return to form for Jaa. I'm always a bit stunned by how many folks seem to poo-poo the first one. I love it. That being said those last couple ONG BAK's were painful to sit through. I could accept them being nonsensical horseshit if at least the fights delivered. They didn't.

That is a whole lot of Statham and Adkins!

Great job Molt. I hope Looper doesn't let me down.

The big hook for this film is that the SEALs are not actors, they are played by actual Navy SEALs. That may lend the film some authenticity but will any of these guys convey the joys of zany golf cart mischief like Biehn and Sheen? Doubtful.

Awesome.

Nice "are you still reading?" easter egg too.

Beaks gave it a rave early review on AICN, and it sounds like Willis is gonna kick it into "give a shit" mode which will be refreshing considering some of his recent films.

BARELY LEGAL STILL IN BRACES

Great preview, Molt!

But let's not forget Jackie Chan's latest film Chinese Zodiac which will be released in Dec 2012. It'll be an Old School HK Martial Arts adventure from the looks of it.

The Teaser Trailer

Fantastic work Molt, I love your style.

For various reasons I especially appreciated -

"In a wonderful stroke of wisdom it appears Channing Tatum will have limited screen time while The Rock leads the charge as Roadblock."

"We’re all gonna be dripping in bliss."

"Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, and Michael Pena play members of an LAPD unit formed in the 40’s to keep mobsters out of the city ..."

"As for Giancarlo Giannini? Yep, still in that dumpster."

"50 Cent unfortunately stars ..."

"... this is another flick delivered from the diseased womb of 50 Cent’s Cheetah Vision production company."

"Mel Gibson-stuck-in-a-Mexican-prison"

"Tom Wopat"

"Christian Slater"

"From the same director of ASSASSINATION GAMES, which ought to sprinkle some dash on any hopes."

"Christian Slater"

And -
