LILY COLLINS WILL BE THE EVIL DEAD REMAKE’S LADY ASH

Or at least the lead... I don't think she's taking on the chin.

Nothing against the girl, but despite that people I really like are involved in this I'm getting less and less interested.

I have absolutely zero interest in this and I am sad to say it.

but I don’t see this as sacred ground that can’t be re-explored. Perhaps it’s blasphemy to say so, but the first Evil Dead is more influential than it is flawless, a perfect candidate for some modern love if the brains behind it are passionate and not forced to compromise.

But it already was re-explored.  EVIL DEAD 2 is just as much a remake as it is a sequel (and achieved perfection IMO). And "modern love" candidacy? That's what flicks like DRAG ME TO HELL are for.

I'm just going to have to just admit this flick is probably not made for me. But if it gets WOM, maybe I'll check it out on home vid.

I'm more interested on the trope-twisting-and-homage-laden CABIN IN THE WOODS personally.

I'm all aboard a new, different spin on Evil Dead. I'm suspicious that this seems more story-heavy, but whatever. I do hope this female lead isn't a "Lady Ash," particularly because she's a (super lovely) 100 lbs. or so. They could either amp up the humans (who could almost hold their own in the original films) or make the demons stronger, and I hope they go the latter route.

She's cute.  Ought to make all the trees happy.

Maybe the tree rapes the boyfriend in this one?

Rick Santorum would love that shit. "See! Homosexuality is eeeeevil!" He would inexplicably have a huge boner while saying this.

I don't think she is.  The longer synopsis that was released awhile back implied that Mia the Addict would be the first to be possessed and that her friends would chalk her "odd" behavior up to withdrawal.........at first.  She might be the "lead", but that doesn't mean she is the hero.

Actually, I hope they DO go there!

Dohohohoho.

I can't imagine this will be much like Evil Dead aside from the title, if only because the actors are probably getting paid in legal tender instead of hastily scrawled Raimibux on construction paper. Still, I might check it out. I'm a huge fan of the series but the first Evil Dead itself isn't particularly sacred ground for me. DARKMITE8 is correct in saying that Evil Dead 2 is basically the best possible remake of Evil Dead.

I'm glad they got Colin Farrell's eyebrows to make a cameo appearance, though.

Cabin in The Woods is EVERYTHING I would ever want out of an Evil Dead type movie made in the modern day.  Seriously, Joss Whedon essentially "completed" this type of movie for me.

I'd be seriously surprised if they include the tree rape in this remake. I recall Rami having stated that he'd not have included it himself had he made the film in later years

This is such a basic concept, and the reputation of the old films are based on such simple characteristics. It seems like a serious lack of imagination is necessary to not have at least some interest in what a few clever, interesting people can do when empowered with a brand that gets them a greenlight, but pretty much leaves them with a blank canvass.

I'm sure Cabin in the Woods is great, but I can also foresee having a lot of fun with a gooey spookshow in the woods that's not all wrapped up in metatextual winking and post-modernism.

The thing is Cabin is not as much post modernism as you think, it's more or less what this movie will end up being done about as good as it can be, with a neat bonus twist tacked that keeps the entire thing fresh and funny and interesting.  I'll of course see this flick, and I hope that blank canvas turns into something wonderful and scary and fun.  It's just that the bar has been raised incredibly high.  Cabin is the Shaun Of The Dead or Attack The Block of it's genre.

He tells is literally nothing.  Nothing new, nothing in general.
