WE MIGHT ACTUALLY DISCOVER PANDORA BEFORE CAMERON MAKES AVATAR 2 & 3

Four more years! Four more years!

Oh well, at least he won't be rushing it. I warmed to Avatar a bit more after watching the extended cut on blu-ray, and as far as i'm concerned if he can cook up something that fleshes out some of the untouched stuff in the scriptment he can take as long as he likes. I really don't think the wait will hurt the films; like Titanic, this thing stuck with the mainstream crowd in a big way and I think this is a case where the desire to relive the experience will overcome the time gap.

Another four? It's already been two full years. How much better effects than the first do we need?

When Avatar 3 opens in 2017, it'll be 10 years since Worthington and Saldana shot their first scenes for the first movie.

He can take ALLLLLLLL the time he needs.  ALL THE TIME.

I'd rather sooner than later. Loved Avatar kind of perplexed by all the late hate it's earned, and would love to see more of it.

Maybe to fill the void in the mean time they could make a decent game instead of that piece of crap tie in title.

I wonder if Aliens was released today in this post Xbox and Internet world, if it would be as revered, or if it would get slammed for being a moronic gung ho attempt to cash in on the original Ridley Scott classic.

I envision 180,000 message board threads titled 'OMG Camrun totally riipd off Halo LOLWTFBBQ!!'

Cameron working on sequels feels so limiting at this point. The man tried his hand at different genres with True Lies and Titanic, then waited ten years for technology to catch up with him for Avatar...and now he wants to return to the same sandbox? Not that he's old or anything, but devoting the next near decade to sequels could severely limit his original output within his lifetime.

If he wants to do a sequel, he should follow Ridley Scott's lead and do Prometheus 2.

I hope he finds another sunken boat he can spend 12 years poking around, myself.

Well he was poking around the Bismark for a while there, if memory serves.

Sadly enough, a tragic love story of two homosexual German sailors was not brought to screen.

Anything to keep him busy so I don't have read through reams of gushing bullshit about his crushingly unsubtle, two-dimensional film-making.

"Coming in 2020: BISMARCK. A new historical epic from the genius mind of James Cameron. With award winning music and songs by Falco."

Seriously though. I'd kill for a big budget naval warfare movie.

Starring Sam Worthington as Pvt. Penislustig.

Special guest star: Billy Zane as Adolph Hitler.

"I hope you enjoy your time together, you filthy schwuls!"

No filmmaker in history has had the kind of blank check he has now. And yet...

YAY CAN'T WAIT FOR PART TWO AND THREE.

Whatever, man. Does anyone, ANYONE know a single non-nerd who has willingly seen Avatar twice? Like a mom, or a teenager, or some war veteran or shop-owner or something? I just can't wrap my brain around this being the most successful movie of all time.

Yeah, me too. I have absolutely no idea how it could have surpassed Titanic. None whatsoever.

Almost everyone I knew watched Titanic in theaters. Avatar no so much.

Don't forget, we're getting BATTLESHIP.  So your wish has been fulfilled.

People went.  Alot.

I think "Avatar" was the only movie my mom saw in the theater that didn't have "Harry Potter and the..." in the title. So that's pretty monumental.

I can't wait to gush all over these movies!

I wouldn't be ENTIRELY shocked if Cameron chucked out a small film before Avatar 2 hits screens.  More than likely though, he'll just spend his time exploring the ocean...........................and occasionally working on Avatar 2 & 3, as well as that prequel novel he brings up from time to time.

And every time those people went they got to pay an extra $3 or so for the honour of seeing it in 3D. Let's not pretend that didn't play a role.

Except no other 3D movie has even passed 400 M in one run let alone 700 M.

Hey, I'm not saying it wasn't an achievement. It was also a perfect storm of marketing, the 3D craze cresting a wave, and a product specifically designed to appeal to the broadest audience possible. It certainly wasn't because the film itself was exceptionally good - TIN TIN is playing the exact same sandbox as AVATAR and it kicks the ever-loving shit out of it.

There was a huge crest, a 3D craze, no doubt. Otherwise ALICE would never have achieved a billion dollars.

I still don't know whether Cameron really thinks the world of Pandora is that original and thought out. He always talks about as if it's this rich universe, a new Star Trek or Star Wars. Clearly, it is not.

Where's the ongoing merch? I don't see a second or third Avatar videogame. Or consequent releases of action figures. Or extended universe fandom. The only thing I noticed was that so not funny This is not Avatar XXX Porn Parody.

Honestly, I don't think we're going to get another Star Wars-esque rich universe again in terms of merchandise opportunities.  There were chances with Pirates, but I don't even think Disney pursued it that hard.  Even the attempt to restart a nu-Trek EU hasn't exactly met with gangbuster success.

Oddly enough, the world of Avatar is incredibly limited.  There are only two worlds to really explore at this point, and there's no way to really have Jake or any of the main characters explore that much since space travel is so time-consuming.  I think there's no ongoing merch because there's not actually that much room for it.  At best there's some Clone Wars-esque stuff potentially with the early interactions between humans and the Na'vi.

I think the negativity and controversy helped a lot. All of the hubbub over it's budget being like the GDP of a small country and the tech-talk and assorted shit just created one of those things that people had to see just so they say they did, just so they could be part of the conversation and have an opinion. Cameron's good at all that. I mean, I did jury duty early last year, and the fucking judge brought up Avatar. All that said, I couldn't care less about this. I want to go back to Pandora like I want to go back to middle school.
