30 Rock: Season 6 - Page 6

Hamm an Baldwin were soooo good. The stare down between Morgan and Hamm in the last piece was great. Loved the McCartney cameo, shame to hear they replaced him in the WC version. And Fallon laughing while in catachter...not surprised.

Has anyone watched both the EC and WC versions is it worth watching both?

Nah, the EC version is the only one you need to see. Predictably, the energy was a little muted on the WC version. Though, Brian Williams' cameo was pretty damn good, as was Baldwin's brief spot as Paul Lynde.

Was Kim Kardashian a last minute replacement or was her casting a clever commentary that was meant to contrast the "great contributor to humanity" Paul McCartney to his polar opposite, the vapid parasite Kardashian?

I bet more people recognized Kardashian.

The "Wow, 2.5 million people just saw that!" / "Now 14 million people have.  You're welcome." joke was a pretty sadly accurate little commentary.

"Is your father or a policeman nearby?"

I can't stop laughing at that line. This is what is so phenomenal with humor. This line says more about the absurdity of sexism than a thousand angry blogs could ever hope to.

I would love to see a whole 30 Rock episode of old TV show skits.

And Hamm doing that role was so much better than Williams, mostly because you couldn't help but think Hamm was channeling a little Don Draper the whole time.

They could just do a 1960s version of the show.

Well, you kinda just did. I mean, how different would it be?

I meant the whole 30, well 22, minutes of the show.

Jon Hamm was by far the best part of the show. "Banjo!"

The Ned Stark line killed me.

Virginia was quite good at giving everyone the "stink eye"

Ugh. Hated the first Queen of Jordan episode, and ditto for this one. I'll take my reality show spoofing in Talk Soup format, thank you very much.

I really liked both Queens of Jordan, and while I don't really watch Talk Soup, don't they pretty much just mock reality TV rather than spoof it?

Agree that the reaction shots they were getting out of the baby were incredible, but the highlight of the episode was D'fwan's D'fwine.

That's the thing, to me. Reality shows barely support spoofing, because they're pretty much exactly the way they were portrayed in last night's episode. Talk Soup just reduces them to their most absurd moments, in tiny bites, which is much more palatable to me.

Each his own.  I thought it was funny, so it basically gets a pass, and plugging in familiar characters and seeing how they are morphed according to QoJ's needs made for some commentary on how reality shows are just as deliberately manufactured and meticulously presented as scripted fare.  Which is maybe not a shocking revelation to folks on a site based around scripted entertainment like this one, but again, funny-so-pass.

The weak point of the episode was Jack and Steenburgen's limp attempts to cover up their missteps, which was not disappointing because of the reality angle, but because it could've played out note for note on any forgettable sitcom from the last 40 years.  Okay, Ralph Kramden probably wouldn't have actually kissed a gay black guy on network TV, but still.

This one line salvaged an otherwise mediocre episode.

I don't watch a lot of reality TV, we don't even really have this kind of show in the UK, but this episode made me uncomfortable in a way I can't explain, like I was in a room with lame white comedy writers making jokes about black people while they're not in the room. Am I wrong in this? Cos, urgh.

Man, I don't understand why there is so much venom being spewed at 30 Rock here.

IMO, 30 Rock has been a hell of a lot funnier than Community these days (and I like Community!)

For sheer volume of comedy delivered in 20-odd minutes, 30 Rock is off the scale....

To all you haters....

Agreed.  They've been having a pretty killer season.

Meh. It wasn't as horrible as some of you think but it wasn't all that great.

I'm not the biggest fan of the QoJ episodes as it leaves some of the usual cast out, primarily the other writers.  However, Cerie's line about her contractual obligations cracked me up.

Save for a few moments I could take or leave this episode. I'm with Singer on this one. I don't see how you can convincingly spoof reality shows. How can you ridicule a creature made out of shit that only speaks in farts?

I don't care for the QoJ episodes either but it was worth watching just for "I think I just solved the mystery of the phantom pooper."

yeah....well....I thought it was hella funny so....

It was no where nears as good as last years QoJ. Then gain, after last weeks show, anything was going to be a bit of a let down.

Oh yeah, the phantom pooper and Jack being worried about Clinton's Sex Plane were both great parts.

Rude!

I agree, I've been enjoying this season. There are so many great characters and they deliver their lines so well, pretty much anything Jack says kills me.

Been seeing commercials for Tracy Morgan's stand-up special on Comedy Central, and am reminded for the first time in awhile what a miracle it is that 30 Rock makes him funny.  I never cared for him on SNL (although I loved the sketch where he and Jim Brewer played 70s porn stars trying to hack it at a fast food joint), and his stand up is just horrifically, atrociously unfunny.

the reuniting of Jack and Avery was a bit anti-climactic but as usual, there were so many other little throw away bits that a re-watching is mandatory.

“Their meat is just deflated kickballs.”

"There's a Mitt Romney-4, they worked all the bugs out. He’s not killing hobos at night anymore.”

"Referring to me as Khaleesi" = awesome.  I don't know why, but it always tickles me when I can tell what the favorite show of a given writer's room is at a moment (like The Office with BSG or Community with Cougartown/Dr. Who)

I must know what the stars mean.

Parks and Rec had a GoT reference as well.

I laughed my ass off at the Homeland reference, but then it rapidly turns into a full blown Homeland homage?  Interesting.

The line about Dr. Cornell West seeing The Five-Year Engagement killed me for some reason.

Season 7 just got a lot more awesome. Katherine O'hara is playing Kenneth's backwoods redneck Mama while Brian Cranston plays her ... "friend" ... Ron.

I read today that Jack's assistant Jonathan is coming back after escaping (?) that POS show 'Whitney'.

it's killing me that there are only going to be 13 more episodes..... :(

Is it starting yet?

Cranston may get all the awards and all the cool kids to like him now but he'll always be a wacky dad in my heart. And I really hope there is an extended scene between O'Hara and Fey with as minimal a script as possible.
