"The other" made for television production following the build-up, occurrence and after math of nuclear war. Only following from the British perspective. As good a movie as The Day After is, it's true what they say. Threads makes it look like a Saturday morning cartoon.

The most frightening movie I've ever seen. Don't think I'll ever be able to shake it off.

I do believe this is on Google Video, though I can't search for it right now. Either that or Yahoo video.

And HOLY SHIT it is bleak. Really upsetting and brilliant, with startlingly real performances. With nuclear annihilation such a serious threat back then, I can't imagine how hard I would have shit my pants watching this. Feels like a document from an actual alternate world where we all destroyed each other, and watching it on Google/Yahoo video as I did (don't recall) just made it feel more real.

I understand this film has a weirdly low profile, and I don't understand that. If you love watching apocalyptic movies, this is a drop-everything must.

As is the early antecedent, Pete Watkins' fake documentary The War Game. Watch that then Threads for the grimmest double bill ever.

It's on YouTube in its entirety.

Jackson directed another excellent made-for-television film Indictment: The McMartin Trial.
