is there still a market for older comic books?

So, I have a bunch of comics from late 70's, 80's, early 90's that are taking up too much space in one of my closets.

There's a little bit of everything. DC, Marvel, First Comics, some of the other imprints from those days.

Bunch of the Vertigo comics, Legion of SH, some Spider/Batmans, a lot of the more obscure stuff,  etc.

Anyone still embedded in the 'scene' have any info/opinions about the state of the comic book marketplace these days?

I can't help but think that with the advent of the graphic novel collections of older series, the demand for the individual original issues has all but disappeared...?

It's been awhile since I was in a comic book store  but I think that there is still a market for some of the more desirable older comics from 40, 50, 60's ...but where does the marketplace stand these days for the more recent books?

$$$ or birdcage liner?

You could always go through and arrange them into packs and sell them of piecemeal on ebay and make a little cash. Given the general financial health of most stores you'd be lucky to sell them there but you could call around.

Personally, and this is just me, I've always gotten a kick out of giving them away to the next generation. I've got a big 80's and 90's collection and the town I live in doesn't have a store, and the newsagent has no comics. So I had them out to kids any chance I get. Last Halloween I gave out three at a time along with candy to kids, got a huge kick out of watching kids on the sidewalk trading what they had between them and the future geeks using their candy to buy comics of others.
