This is a thing that exists.

This movie faces the mother of all uphill climbs where I'm concerned.

I'm just excited for the eventual board game tie-in. New game pieces!!!

I miss the old days, where you could just turn something into a sequel despite having no relation to the original films.

Because this is just begging to be called "Transformers 4: Battleship."

I miss the old days where I was one of maybe three people I knew who liked Very Bad Things* and couldn't wait to see what Peter Berg did next.

*Seriously, my friends and I would quote the shit out of that movie.

Berg is the only reason I'm giving this the amount of attention I do.

You piss in the eye of Liam Neeson with such bald-faced contempt, sir!

Berg has so much potential. I think he needs to step away from the sci-fi / superhero stuff, and concentrate on the action / thrillers more. I absolutely love the last 20 minutes of "The Kingdom". I'd like to see a whole movie with that kind of adrenaline intensity.

I'd figured that a Brit like you would be the last person to take offense at the Irish being pissed on.

Just call it compensation for watching fake-Taken.

Liam Neeson isn't Irish. He's HARDASS.

Now I need to watch UNKNOWN just to see how cruddy it is. This is what happens when you don't get Leland Orser on board!

You're not alone.

Berg is still making Lone Survivor next, as far as I know.  But I heard he is also making a documentary on Mike Leach.  Unlikely it's part of the 30 for 30 series, though.

I suspect Mr. Neeson would have it no other way.

Everything about this movie is an obligation -

-Hasbro is making movies very obviously to sell toys.

-Universal is so frustrated with Hasbro it's making this as a contractual obligation, but they paid huge kill fees to get out from all other Hasbro movies.

-Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgaard and Taylor Kitsch are all supposed to be doing movies like this at this point in their careers, since Skarsgaard and Kitsch take all the high profile studio stuff with star roles, and Neeson just likes keeping busy.

-Peter Berg is making this a "one for them" so he can make "Lone Survivor."

So everybody's doing this so they can get to do stuff they REALLY want to do. It shows.

So it’s aliens who seemingly have an aversion to land mass versus old ships that we haven’t used in war time in two decades. And no one thought to make this a period piece?

The Rundown is a great movie.

It really, really is.

The Kingdom is no slouch either.

I just hope Berg gets the leeway he's obviously looking for for his next project. Guys still pretty exciting as far as I'm concerned.

Tim Kelly, Why is there so much negativity about...Battleship?  The US Navy vs Aliens should be...Awesome!  This is a film I have high hopes for.  It definitely is a candidate for my...2012 Top 10!

I'm assuming we're all BSG/retirement cruise when things go to shit.

I'm also assuming that, since these aliens are clearly the opposites of the water-phobes from Signs that we're going to kill them with dirt!

I'm further assuming that I'll never learn first hand if either of those are true.

This AND a Len Wiseman story at the same time? Temazi party!!!

EDIT: Not a knock on CHUD's reporters BTW, just on the tidal wave of blandness with which Hollywood has graced us today.

The Rain Dog, Battleship should be one of the...Better films of 2012!  The US Navy vs Aliens.  That should be cool.  It should also be better than Spielberg's...War Of The Worlds, when they followed Tom Cruise and Co, rather than world wide destruction, caused by the Martians.  If more Alien invasion films get made, I am all for it.  I would love an adaption of...Marvel Comics: Killraven The War Of The Worlds!  That would be the most...Epic, Alien Invasion of Earth...Ever!
