I was very excited to see the American Reunion movie. I saw American Pie just after college and remembered it was quite funny. Jim, Michelle, Oz, Heather, Stifler reunite for their high school...

It's not that I can't appreciate well-shot and planned-out action scenes like this, but it's just so obviously choreographed that it takes me out of the moment. I'm watching a dance scene, not a melee. I like sudden, jarring action scenes that feel as if they're in the moment, not this "one guy comes screaming from around the corner whenever the previous guy has been dispatched" shit. There's a great old SNL skit about ninjas never attacking at once, and this kind of scene just falls perfectly into that category. Where are all these guys coming from? Why are they spaced out so perfectly for the hero? Seriously, three of these guys at once could just tackle the fucking hero. I know, suspension of disbelief and all that, but c'mon already.

Guess you can't please everyone. Personally I think this is looking like one of the best action films to come down the pike in a while, a throwback to the early 90s glory days of Hong Kong action cinema. The exact reason to watch a movie like this is to see a beautifully choreographed ballet of violence. But different strokes I guess.
