Going to need a new summer show.

I know there's still a long time to go before summer but I was just thinking I'm going to need a new summer show to watch. Rescue Me was my summer show since 2004 and almost became as traditional as baseball season during the summer for me. I know FX is going to premiere the new Charlie Sheen sitcom, I'll check it out. But I want a drama/comedy to fill the void left open by Rescue Me.

Are you watching Breaking Bad?  If not, why not?

I'll need to get caught up. I've heard nothing but great things about it but I haven't watched any episodes. When does the new season start? I'll try and get caught up online or on the reruns on AMC or see if my local library has some of the seasons on DVD.

No official date yet that I've seen, but July is a good bet for the new season.

Sons of Anarchy and Justified are both action/dramas, but both have a healthy dose of humor.  You could always watch The Job, the show Leary did before Rescue Me.  It's the same tone, but as a 30 min cop show.  Breaking Bad and Mad Men, obviously.  The first 2 seasons of Dexter are pretty good.

The USA shows are a good mix of drama and comedy. They rely almost entirely on charm and banter, but Burn Notice, Royal Pains and most importantly, White Collar are all good mid-level distractions for the summer. No need to get heavily invested into wrenching human and male misery like Breaking Bad or Mad Men and they aren't your standard procedurals like CSI: Whatever. They find a good blend between overarching storyline and weekly capers and I'm pretty sure they're on the winter/summer docket, so new episodes show up around July or something.

I've wanted to see The Job for years now. I haven't been able to find it online anywhere to watch. I'll have to buy the DVD set from Best Buy or Amazon.

USA has pretty much raided Rescue Me. Callie Thorne, who played Sheila is in that one that was on last summer... forget the name. But she played a football therapist. The guy who played Garrity in RM is going to get his own pilot on USA, the guy who played Franco is going to get a show on there, the guy who played Jerry is on a show on there and Denis Leary is going to write and produce a show called Sirens about some paramedics that will also be on the USA Network. I'll check some of those shows and some of the shows you mentioned out. Which one is the show that has Bruce Campbell?

I hope Leary and Tolan get to work on their new comedy that they mentioned while doing all of the interviews for the finale of Rescue Me last year. They said they were about to get to work on a comedy for Leary to star in.

I've just finished the first series of Misfits, which is a great blend of drama and humor with characters who are charismatic but not always likeable, sort of like Rescue Me.  But they're British juvenile delinquents rather than firefighters.  All three series (for a whopping total of 18 episodes) are free on Hulu at the moment, which is also nice because they have closed captions for when the accents veer to the impenetrable side.
