Dunno if it's touted as the next FRIENDS so much as described as having a similar premise, or lack thereof. There isn't even the vague pretense of a gimmick or hook. They don't work together, they're not in school together, they're not all geeks, it's not the story of how one of them met his wife, etc; the premise of the show is literally "they're a group of friends and they hang out and it's fun to watch."

One of the characters is also gay without being a complete cartoony stereotype. I mean, he is a cartoonish character but it's based on him being an eccentric goofball rather than his sexual orientation, which is just there.

I just can't believe Damon Wayans is old enough now to have a MAN for a son. Weird. And he sounds just like Dad.

And speaking of Wayans, I remember IN LIVING COLOR seeming like a huge boon for the black community, entertainment wise. "It's an edgier SNL!" It was well-received and hilarious... and managed to just launch the successful careers of Jim Carrey and J-Lo. And no, I don't consider the work of the Wayans bros in WHITE CHICKS to be hash mark in the winning column.

Shouldn't that show have given Keenen and crew more clout? EDIT: Keenen's nearly single-handedly responsible for the terrible glut of post-Zucker parody movies thanks to SCARY MOVIE. Forget what I said.

But I still say Tommy Davidson deserved something bigger.

David Alan Grier too, for that matter.
