Warner Brothers will try and reclaim the "Badass Moses" title for the Jews.

and here...we...go

I would LOVE to see Spielberg do this! He is the natural heir to De Mille et al.

Alternate title:  MOSES AND THE FIRST CRUSADE

Well swords-and-sandals is definitely a territory Spielberg's never explored. Sounds pretty great -- I hope it comes together.

I've seen a little skepticism about the whole gritty, Saving Private Ryan angle, but I don't know. I prefer my Kingdom of Heavens to my Troys, so it sounds like the way to go.

Wait so it's a 'hard-edged' biopic of Moses, yet it's not a retelling of The Ten Commandments Moses story?

So what the hell is it then?

Alternate title:  RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK:  THE ORIGIN STORY

Well prior to all the Jew-leading and plague bringing he was a prince and if my memory doesn't fail me he was a pretty important dude. Leading armies and stuff.

So it'll be Moses: The War Years?

'Kay, I suppose I'll still get a sword and sandal epic that way.

ETA: Hang on a sec - does this mean what I think it does? That the plan is to turn The Book of Exodus into a branded franchise film series of some kind?

Is it a churlish to ponder out loud: How do you do a hard-edged bio-pic of someone who, in all likelihood, didn't exist? (and not even in a 'oh he's an amalgam of historical entities and events' way.  It looks like the Hebrews were never even in Egypt, let alone enslaved there)

Yeah I can kind of think of ways.  But this is more King Arthur (and beyond) than William Wallace, if you get my drift.  You can't even get mad 'cause they're either making it up or referring to made up stuff. Call it Lord of the Tablets or something.

Is ROBOPOCALYPSE just TERMINATOR without the time travel? THE MATRIX, MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE, I ROBOT, etc. What makes it special for SS to want to take it on?

Lincoln and Moses biopics? Spielberg is letting his beard choose his projects.

Oh shit, I can't believe I participated in a Spielberg thread and forgot.

What about INTERSTELLAR, Steven?

Yeah, the bible is so mis-interpreted it's ridiculous.  It's why I can never take serious depictions of biblical stories seriously.  Now get Alejandro Jodorowski, Terrence Malick, David Lynch and David Cronenberg to do a anthology film about the book of revelations and I'll show up.

Oh, and I second the Interstellar interest...wake me up when he decides to make that film.

I'd love to see the story told that I personally subscribe to, whereby the Heretic Pharoah Akenhaton and his disgraced followers were forced to leave Egypt, founding the Hebrew people in the process.

Thats a film that will never, ever be made tho.

The movie should be called: Moses Begins

I dunno..Moses & the Old Testament? Spielberg'll probably just make it all "Jew-y".

Moses: The Basket Years

Too bad Basket Case is already taken.

On a more serious note, I'm honestly shocked it has taken this long for Stevie to tackle the biblical epic subgenre.
