Have you read the bible? The stories in it are awesome. You sound like someone who only listen to some fire and brimstone preacher, and never read the book for yourself. What some TV minister says is in the bible, and what the bible really says are often two different things. The OT can be pretty brutal, but it from a brutal time. As brutal as mosaic law seem to us today, it was a mark improvement in legality of the time, even over the Code of Hammurabi, and most of the world didn't even have any thing as good as the Code of Hammurabi. Jest because, most ministers would rather have people live by mosaic law, then the Sermon on the Mound, does not mean for it time the mosaic law was not better for people in it time, then the alternatives. There is a reason way Jesus speaks of the old and new wine skin, new testament law is a lot nicer then OT law, unless you make your living by getting people to follow your every word.
