The 2016 Elections Thread

Thread Starter

So let's do some speculation to get the ball rolling.

Obama doesn't get brought down by a Solyndra/Fast and Furious style scandal, the economy continues to sputter but at least on an upward angle, and doesn't suffer a "My Pet Goat" moment and wins a second term in 2012. So who is going to run for the two parties in 2016 after Obama retires to Chicago or Hawaii?

Hillary missed her shot, and has already ruled out running again. Her age does her in as well. Biden is a non-starter. Who's up for the Dems?

As for the Republicans, I hope Santorum isn't considered next in line. That all but guarantees a Dem president.

No.

Just... No.  Please save this thread for at least November 3, 2012.  No one could have predicted Obama would be the Democratic nominee, let alone the President, on November 3, 2004.

This is pointless.

As much of a political junkie as I am, looking at 4 years down the line is premature.   One thing is for certain.   If Obama does win a second term, expect the heavy hitters (if Christie, Jindal, and Jeb Bush could be considered such) to step in in 2016 to "save America".

I agree with Spook....too far out to even consider...too many variables.

Jeebus, this election is still a giant "what if?" ....well, on the GOP side anyway. (I suppose it's really more of a "what the fuck"?)

Yeah, I mean, I'm sorry, but come on...

Frankly, a "2024 Elections Thread" would be better than this one. I'm really interested in discussing how the GOP plans to address the butt-rape problem on President Gingrich's moon base.

I assume that Sealab 2021 was a visionary documentary of Newt Gingrich's moon base translated into what we could understand.

For realsies...

Jon Stewart for President

Steven Colbert for Vice President

As long as they're honest butt-rapes, there's no problem.

Then you can give them a shot of testosterone if, you know, life doesn't quite begin at conception ... or something.

My choice (but Spook's right - it's silly to even go there):  Elizabeth Warren/Russ Feingold

I could get behind Elizabeth Warren.

"Mmmm..Elizabeth Warren as POTUS..."

I think Elizabeth Warren will probably run. The biggest hurdle for her is going to be a lack of experience.  But if Obama's second term is an overall success (i.e. the economy continues to improve), it's going to be hard for anyone to use that against her.

I'm voting for Elizabeth Warren this year. Chances are, I'd vote for her any year. No matter what the election was for. Also, I've met her (at the movies no less!) and she was totally nice and gracious.

I can't vote for her, I live in Albany but she interests me and seems like one of the better rising stars of the Democratic Party. I really hope she reclaims Ted Kennedy's seat and hopefully an important speech at the convention (Ala Obama in 2004) Although I don't see her running in 2016, maybe 2020 or 2024 to get more experience

Not at all. Politicans rise up the ranks in a fairly predictable fashion. Very few Presidents come out of nowhere to take the highest position in the Executive Branch. Obama's rise was media driven, and his political career leapfrogged several steps in the typical flow. What I'm looking for is to see who are the potential rising stars for both parties, and if there are possible.

What about Debbie Wasserman-Schultz on the rise for the Dems? No one seems that impressed with Bobby Jindal any more.I know Christie is on the rise for the Republicans.

Wasserman-Schultz is awful.

The reason I think she'll run in 2016 is she may be too old by 2020 (70).  Definitely too old in 2024.

I think 'expanding for the republicans' would be a better phrase... :)

could you expand (hah!) on this statement?

This is silly talk. Everyone knows King Obama will abolish term limits and the electoral college after the great Socialist Purge of 2015. There will be no election in 2016. At least we'll have Robot Biden to entertain us!
