2012-2013 NFL season - Page 5

Smith and Manning have the same agent too.  Of course, Smith exploring other options is smart even if he wants to stay in SF.

Yeah, it makes sense for Smith to exercise his free agent rights before all the QB jobs disappear. The places that would give him the starting job are already few. If he waits for a call from the 49ers that may never come, he could end up a backup somewhere like Jason Campbell did.

I still don't know how that happened.

Looks like Brandon Lloyd landed in New England with his boy Josh McDaniels.  Good fit for him, and as great as the Pats offense was, they've really been in need of a deep threat.  They signed Anthony Gonzalez too apparently.  I didn't even know that guy was still playing football.

Campbell is coming off an injury, so I assume he wants to play it safe and just have a job.  And yeah, the Brandon Marshall signing is great, but that O-line in Chicago needs some serious work.  If I was a betting man, I'd say Cutler is a lock to miss time this year.

I feel bad for Campbell.  I've always liked the guy.  He got the short end of the stick in DC (and Oakland for that matter), with the revolving door of coaches and coordinators and offensive systems.  The only consistency he had with the Redskins was that there was consistently a lack of talent around him.

Lloyd isn't the answer.  Aligator arms will still suck.

I'm just surprised he didn't wait and see. He's better than half the starters in the NFL and has the numbers to prove it. I have to think one of Manning's rejects would've signed him as a starter. Or that one of a dozen teams would've given him a chance to win the job. Just a weird decision on his part, especially since his injury (broken collar bone) has no long-term concerns.

If someone ever teaches Cutler what an internal clock is, Campbell's screwed! smile.gif

And Flynn picks the Seahawks.  Meanwhile, Miami is bringing in David Gerrard.  Sorry about that, Fins fans.

Good for Flynn. A better situation and if he succeeds it will be on his own merits instead of the whole "product of the GB system."

And I'll take a straight-up Garrard for Henne trade.

Richard DIckson, Heck, I am...Not Sorry!  The Sorry bit is that...Jeff Ireland is...Still, Miami's GM!  Ireland should be demoted...Immediately!  Let someone else be GM.  He would probably take another offensive lineman instead of drafting a QB in the first Rd!  To get Ryan Tannehill, Miami might have to trade...up, over the Browns.  If the Browns or...Anybody else likes Tannehill, Miami would lose a chance at yet another QB!  Now, they might as well stick with Matt Moore, whom has...one year left on his contract, draft a QB, and then let the rookie QB take over the middle of 2012, and say No...Moore starts for...Matt!

Word is the Browns have decided to just go with McCoy in 2012 and then try and get Matt Barkley next year.

And Flynn to the Seahawks...Pete Carroll has now had a different starting QB every season since he's come to Seattle.

From Schefter: Manning to Broncos - Tebow to be traded.

Tebow Time in Miami!

Manning should go to SF.  Fuck his brother, play with that defens, Davis, crabtree, manningham, moss, RB's.  Bad, bad move to Den.

But glad Tebow is GONE forever.

If Manning really wanted to win SF was the best option for him.

He's certainly not going to make people forget Elway, that's for sure.  Not unless he wins three rings while he's there.

So much for the warm weather/dome speculation.  Denver in December ain't exactly Honolulu-like temperatures.  Granted, two of his conference away games are in Oakland and San Diego, but KC gets pretty damn cold as well.  Or maybe a UT guy decided to stick it to a UF guy one last time...

I don't get this decision at all.  It's gotta be money right?  Or he just really wants to play for Elway?  Seems like the 49er's were his best shot at a superbowl.

Ha ha, from Rich Eisen's twitter:

"The Colts are not on the Broncos schedule in 2012 but of course the Patriots are. And so are the Texans, who clearly cannot escape Peyton."

Richard Dickson, I could definitely see Tim Tebow in...Miami!  Alex Smith will likely get an...Extension with The 49ers.

Wasn't Tebow playing in Miami the only sellout for the Dolphins in 2011?

Easy division.  Elway is in charge so he can talk to him and get things he wants.  He hates Tebow too.  Atleast I hope so.

Lightning won't strike twice and whomever takes Tebow has to redo their entire offense.

I say Broncos don't get more than a 4th for Tebow.

Yeah, they pulled out all the stops and honored his Gators championship team.

Tolbert signs with the Panthers for 4 years, getting nicely lost in the shuffle of the Manning news.  Apparently Tolbert is just fine with being just another guy on a team because it's gonna be pretty easy to get lost in that RB corps.

Somebody in Carolina must be on the trading block.  Probably Stewart.  We know John Fox is a big fan, and I can only assume he's gonna be shopping around for some new weapons for Peyton.

Panthers are saying they have no plans to trade Stewart though.

My friends and I are poking and prodding another buddy, a diehard Niners fan, on his facebook wall about the possibility of the 49ers picking up Tebow and therefore nullifying all their newly acquired receivers. Won't happen, but he's freaking out. He really wanted Peyton.

Eh, as long as they resign Alex Smith, they should theoretically have improved themselves from a year they went 13-3.  I'm disappointed, sure... but better Denver than Arizona.

Not to mention a very good defense and run game.

Den and Seattle are the two teams from last year where you looked and said "boy, they'd be a threat if they had a legit NFL QB"

Goddamn Broncos.

Dolphins got their man! David Garrard!

Time to start the Tebow to the Bucs rumors now!

Good god NO.  We didn't spend all that money on Vincent Jackson to bring in Tim Tebow to throw to him.

James May, What a...Waste.  Garrard...used to be pretty good.  Oh well, I hope Ireland is smart enough to draft a QB this year, as Moore and Garrard each have 1 year to be Dolphins!

The more I hear the Tebow-to-Patriots rumors, the more it makes sense. McDaniels is there, after all, and this is a team that was playing Julian Edelman at defensive back. They'll find a place for him to play.

Don't forget that Denver picking Tebow was partially because of rumors that the Patriots loved him and were going to move up to get him.

What are the rules on non-qb players passing the ball? Because if you lined up Tebow alongside Brady, the defense might not have a clue as to what's coming. Brady pass it? Brady hand it off to Tebow to run? To pass? Direct snap to Tebow who muscles it up the middle? Is he a strict running back? Given how the Pats love to mix things up (two giant TEs what?) in terms of odd, unseen formations (to stay ahead of the curve, I guess), it could be...interesting. And Brady's not getting any younger, either. I really don't think it'd happen but the more I think about it, the more it could be fun to watch. It might not result in much, but it could be fun.

As long as they're behind the line of scrimmage and haven't received a forward pass, anybody can pass the ball.

Also read that Green Bay is a possible destination for Tebow.  Wazzahuh?

Still think Jax is best place, and with a new owner that wants to bring in the folks, he can do what the other guys didn't do two years ago--bring in Tebow.  They still need more WRs, though.  He had a couple of good ones in Denver, but Jax has what...the guy they signed from Dallas that was a decent 2nd WR?

Conversation on that on local sportstalk was that Thompson and McCarthy apparently think highly of Tebow, and as far as developing as a QB, well, GB has kinda been the cradle of quarterbacks over the last 2 decades (Favre, Brunell, Kurt Warner had a cup of coffee there, Hasselbeck, Aaron Brooks, Rodgers, Matt Flynn (projected)..), so if he's going to refine the skill set, what better place to be?

Hines Ward officially retires - next stop, the Hall of the Very Good!

Oh, they don't have one of those? Bummer.

Hah! Oh man, that's a good one.

Aaron Brooks is easily the fourth-best QB ever to play... for the New Orleans Saints.

I'm not putting Brooks in the HoF, but he was hardly terrible... 80 starts, 120 tds, 84 ints, fairly good stretch from 02-04.

Stupid WR logjam in the Hall of Fame.  Somebody should make a Youtube video of nothing but Hines Ward blocks downfield.  I'd watch it.

I was being semi-serious. Brees, Manning, Hebert.. and then Brooks. That's pretty much the top four in Saints history.

Well, New Orleans has had other good QBs....unfortunately the Saints usually got hold of them 2-3 yrs past their sell-by date (Billy Kilmer, Ken Stabler, Jim Everett, etc etc).

One big hit and Peyton's career is over. He shouldn't even be playing the game at this point. I don't know why this isn't a bigger issue. The dude has a very fucked up neck. Unless the Broncos gameplan is for him to take zero sacks over the course of a season (at any cost), I just don't see how this makes any sense.

Everything that I have heard is that he is at no greater risk for catastrophic injury than any other player.  Is there something not mentioned in those reports that you know of?

Yeah, the doctors have said his neck is a non-issue. The main health concern is whether the nerve damage is in arm will ever completely heal.

He gets hits less than pretty much any QB in the league. His internal clock and arm speed is Marino-like. I think he'll do fine in Denver, but I think he just gave up his shot to win another super bowl. Denver's roster just isn't that good. Even with Peyton at 100%, I'd put them below NE, Pit, Bal and Houston in talent. And people acting like the AFC West is a cake walk are nuts. There's no bad team in that division. They're all unpredictable, but could just as easily go 11-5 as 5-11.

Seeing Manning in the news like this is like seeing an ex that you still love, out with another man.

But you know, you're the one that broke it off, but you still love her and wish her the best kind of thing..
