Yeah, but 7-6 sounds like the score for a pre-season game in Hell.

As soon as Grossman trotted on out, I knew it was safe to turn off the game.  But still... we've had regular season games end with that score.

ObFantasyAlert: Ryan Matthews (RB SD) hurt AGAIN.

In terms of fantasy, the RB position is going to be real interesting this season.

It is. You can make a case that there are only five or six every-down backs left in the NFL, which makes them even more valuable than in years past. We knew the running back by committee trend wasn't going to go away but it seems like it's gonna be taken to the extreme this year with backs coming off of injury/holdout/aging guys vs. the new crop of runners coming into the league.

I felt gangbusters about drafting Trent Richardson until his knee issues. He has Offensive Rookie of the Year potential, long as he's healthy.

Had to be better than that 3-0 nailbiter the Bills lost to Cleveland a few years ago, in the regular season.

OK, as a Packer fan, that begins and concludes my trash talk of the season, I just don't have the ulcer for it.

Preseason for us kicks off tomorrow in San Diego, here's hoping Graham Harrell can be the backup QB we need.

As a fellow Packer fan, I think we should just nap until the playoffs start...."oh, we won the division again? Ho-hum."

Packers D is gonna have to be better than godawful if they want to win the division again, and I hope to God that it is.

Yeah, they barely got to 15-1 with that historically awful D last year.

If they can creep into the high teens I would be dancing in the streets.  The game is offense, but man, I wouldn't object to them taking some of the stress out of watching.

I have an observation that last year was weird, in that previously good-to-solid defenses like NYG, NYJ, GB, NE, even Det to an extent all completely had the bottom fall out on them.

Which means I think there was SOMETHING going on aside from just Green Bay sucking (which they did, don't get me wrong) - to have a huge swath of the league go from solid or better to totally inept on defense may mean that those defenses regress to their previous means. The only problem with that is I have no idea why those teams would have gone to shit (aside from a vague "some effect of the lockout" theory), nor why they should go back from shit to Shine-ola.

A Packer-centric explanation was along the lines of "well, Dom Capers does well in his first few years but after that the opponents figure him out" - which is pretty fucking dumb when you think about it....Capers has been knocking around the league for 2 decades now, I think if he was figured out in Pitt or Carolina, he wouldn't have success ANYWHERE after they figured him out, since he doesn't exactly re-invent his defense at every stop - "Dammit, we had Capers figured out with Houston but we'll need at least 3 yrs to crack his scheme now that the players are wearing green jerseys and yellow helmets!"

In a lot of ways, it's like teams are getting two draft classes this year.  Last year's crop of rookies didn't get any off-season work in, and had an abbreviated training camp.  So this is really their first time through a full NFL training regimen.  You might see a lot of improvement from the class of 2011 this year just through that alone.

Well, Hard Knocks should be fun this week.

Quote:
Dolphins WR Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday evening for domestic violence, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Per the report, Johnson head-butted his wife, Evelyn Lozada, during an argument that took place in a car. Lozada had lacerations on her forehead when police reported to the scene. A police spokesman told Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post that the argument started over a receipt for a box of condoms.

Johnson told police that he and Lozada accidentally bumped heads, according to NFL.com.

Johnson, 34, joined the Dolphins this offseason after having 15 catches in 2011 with the Patriots. He married Lozada and changed his last name from Ochocinco back to Johnson in July. In his first appearance with the Dolphins, Johnson had zero catches on one target in Friday's preseason opener.

Richard Dickson, It should be...Arresting!  Johnson is the newest...Hanging Chad in Florida!  Will he be an Ex Dolphin, or will he rebound Swimmingly?  After Seeing Ryan Tannehill play, I have to double down on my preference for him to be Miami's Starting QB!  I say Miami should say no...Moore to Matt, and welcome another QB to back up Tannehill.

I wish there was some way to get Fleed up in the booth with Gruden for Monday Night Football because holy shit that commentary / banter would be amazing.

Andrew Luck looked pretty good today.

Did anyone see that Bengals Hard Knocks episode where Marvin Lewis tries to explain to Ochocinco the theory of compound interest? Ochocinco looks like Lewis just asked him if he believes in Bigfoot.

And Chad Johnson has been released by the Dolphins.

Richard Dickson, That news is...Glorious!  CJ was a strange move from the start.  Why would a team without a chance to get out of...4th place in a 4 team division  sign a 34 year old wide receiver who only caught...15 passes, from Tom Brady and Super Bowl Losing...Belichick Bunch?

And didn't he change his name back to "Johnson" (tee hee) because he's "serious" now about football?  Dumbass.

Jaguars release Lee Evans. That was quick.

BTW, I had two open heart surgeries at the Cleveland Clinic.  I have a congenital heart issue, so I get my work done in the pediatric cardiology section of the Hospital.  I was in there for 28 days, and not once, but twice PK Phil Dawson was doing rounds with nurses in the ICU.  Guy was a real class act.  I had to laugh though, because the second time was 2 or 3 days before they were to play the Steelers and I told him that I really liked him as a person, would root for him 14 games a year, but really wanted him to lose that week.

Great story, jahosive, and I hope your recovery is going well.

That was 99.  I had surgery yesterday, but something else.  I would get looked at different in the Cleveland Clinic now with my Steeler tattoo lol.

There's been talk about the concussion lawsuit's impact on the NFL going forward, and it may have begun:

Alterra America Insurance seeks to part ways with NFL

Could this be the beginning of an exodus? Probably not, but worth keeping an eye on.

It's so frustrating to see ESPN turn into the Tim Tebow network.  Bad enough when it was Yankees/Sox but this obsession with him is crazy.  It was funny last year because Tebow would suck for 3 quarters and have a drive and he'd lead the show.  I'd much rather them focus on Luck and Griffin-2 guys who may have potential for greatness.  Sit your ass at their camps.

And can they please fire Skip Bayless?  He's the Glen Beck of sports.

Herm Edwards singing "Happy Birthday" to Tim Tebow may be the lowest that ESPN has ever sunk, which is saying something.

Skip Bayless is walking AIDS.

ESPN is beginning Favre un-retiring speculation.  News every 30 minutes.

Jesus, I'm glad I don't watch ESPN that much anymore.  I remember when I would start the morning by having breakfast while I watched Sportscenter.

Dave Dameshek does an incredible impersonation of Chris Berman--he was doing it on Adam Carolla a week or so ago and it was killing me.

ESPN itself is cancer! I'm continually amazed by how they idotic they are.

The so-called "World Wide Leader" ain't so much.  They're not much more than a glorified publicist at times.

They won't.. They just let Skip and Steven A Smith just sit back and just yell over each other.  It's annoying and bad television.   I had a laugh was the question came up on who had the better 1st pre-season game. Andrew Luck or RG3.  Skip trying to defend his pick of RG3 was just mind numbing. Sure RG3 is a hell of a player and will most likely have a good season, but if you're just comparing that first game, it was not a contest.

Bayless is low hanging fruit, it's not worth it to even talk about the guy.  His schtick does its job, and as proof, what other sports talkers have been brought up here?  He's ESPN's version of Jerry Springer.

I do not know if everyone has been following the Cablevision NFL tiff. The NFL Network has been unable to get on Cablevision.  They...Finally agreed to terms, and NFL Network is now on Channel 150.  Red Zone is an additional charge on  channel 151.  Both channels begin today.

Exactly. If you're talking about something Bayless said, he's winning.

35-10, Browns over Packers. I really hope that wasn't the high point of the season.

Bowe signed his franchise deal with the Chiefs....I am officially ready for football now.

I am witnessing the best quarter and a half of Jaguars football in the last decade... preseason, regular season, x-box, whatever. Dare I get excited? It's hard not to right now.

Should we start getting ready for Glabbertmania?

Manning was able to move the ball pretty much all Manning like in the closing 2min of the half, still has 2 ints.  How was RG3? I did not get a change to see him play but his stats were not too good tonight.

Boy did the Jets look bad tonight especially on special team and on offense. So Glad ESPN spent the entire summer talking about them totally worth it! They really need some drastic changes or they will really look like the biggest laughing stock in the league. Just pitiful!

Glad Tebow look bad as well.    He couldn't do it against scrubs so it should calm down those in his corner for atleast a week.

Have a feeling Rex Ryan will be fired after this year.  Sanchez(like Grossman) screwed his teams chances for a SB in back to back seasons.  The window for teams not from NE is short and the Jets has passed.
