Kim Jong-un dead according to Chinese Twitter rumor.

Here's the article.

Basically a website called Weibo which pretty much the Chinese version of Twitter, has rumors circulating that during Kim Jong-un's visit to China an assassin broke into the North Korean embassy and shot him. The assassin then was killed by Jong-un's personal bodyguards.

It's just a rumor now, but wow, this is interesting even if it is not true.

Nothing official on any reputable sites yet.

Yeah I know.

I just found it interesting that the people of one of North Korea's allies seem to be hoping that Kim Jong-un is dead. I guess I never suspected that North Korea would also be disliked in China.

News is that he's either dead or on the run.   I have a feeling there's going to be some major uprisings in N. Korea and it ain't going to be peaceful.

Nothing from Steve Herman: http://twitter.com/w7voa

He's my go-to for all things Korea.

Wow that's wacky, could be BS but if true what does this hold in store for not only North Korea but ramifications for the world since they are a nuclear power.

The most maddening thing is, this could be true, but China and the Norkers are going to be the last ones to tell us.

Should this rumor prove true, I so hope that 30 Rock manages to wrap this into this season.

So I get to be the first to make an "Un Dead" joke?

I smell a sequel to The Yellow Sea...or was that South Korea?

Anyway, amazing if true. He could have stretched out North Korea's BS for decades.

It would be hilarious if his uncle had him killed because of some of the memes that have sprung up in his ascension.

Followup

Us officials state the the rumor is highly unlikely because they detected no out of the ordinary troop movements in North Korea and China that would have followed such an event.

Oh well, and here I was hoping the Arab Spring had migrated to northern Asia.

I'm beginning to think that North Korea is China's Florida.

I've always thought that China would assassinate Kim Jong-un shortly after he assumed power, especially after the Wikileaks document that said they would prefer a united Korea under the government of the South over continuing to have North Korea right on their border being run by the obviously nuts Kim dynasty.

That's interesting, I've never heard that. It does make sense that the Chinese would prefer having stabilty on their southern border rather than a mad-dog Authoritarian regieme that they have heavily supported for sixty years. It's like the US and Mexico, with fewer margaritas.

The whole Axis of Evil thing was always a bit much (drawing a loop around three countries that aren't even really on speaking terms), but there has always been a lot of "NK= Scary!" and "untouchable because China=Scary!"  in the public consciousness.  So much has come out in recent years that just make North Korea look sad and pathetic and not worth any fear at all any more.  China's semi official "Pfft, those guys? *"crazy" gesture*" was the last straw.

Ok, they still have nukes.  Seems they'll be drinking the kerosine for them soon enough though.  The hard part will be what to do with a dying country with so many true believers.  A popular uprising makes things so much more straightforward, or seems to.

Jong-un will probably end up on the run from his own generals anyway.  Perhaps he tried to shoot himself.

So what happens when North Korea does implode? A failed state on the border of South Korea is nearly as bad as having the angry armys of the current situation. Does it become more or less stable?

Beats me.  Talking completely in the abstract it seems like China is going to have to step up.  If only because they're one of the very few North Koreans are going to accept any overt help from.  If China ultimately wants to be a stabilising regional influence, that would be their big test.

Is it wrong if I read that as "Kim Jong Un-dead"? rather than Jong-un dead?

No it's not wrong in the slightest.
