The amount of ignorance on display here is unbelievable.

I have an irrational fear of "giant-headed lesbians".

When "edgy" comedy goes wrong.

For examples of the opposite see In Bruges.

Got to love this site sometimes. Make fun of one of Chud's pre-approved minority categories (i.e. midgets) and people get their panties all in a bunch. But then there is no issue whatsoever lashing back with insults about her being fat or a lesbian.

That is some delicious hypocrisy right there.

The hypocrisy is someone who has been outspoken about the adversity she has faced saying some extremely de-humanizing things about a group that faces similar issues every day.

And, for this:

Where is this list? I have to imagine lesbians are already on it. Also, being fat does not put one in the minority in this country.

Can't make fun of fat people anymore? Bullshit.

I wasn't insulting. I was expressing my irrational fear. And joking. Mostly. At her expense. Alright maybe the big-head comment was an insult. But she opened herself up to it. The "lesbian" label wasn't an insult, it was a label. It was specifically used to point at HER hypocrisy, considering the group she associates with has been so marginalized and yet here are her minority-phobic feelings on display. Get a clue.

And see post #7.

And we're talking about dwarfism, not midgets.

And there's some history behind the original poster's post, so get informed.

The fact that Rosie makes these comments in a interview/chat makes it all the more bothersome. It's not a stand-up stage where uncensored comments are more for shock value and laughs, and don't necessarily reflect the views of the joke teller. Course, considering I was bullied most of my childhood for being way below average height, I wonder if either should be acceptable. I don't feel comedy should be censored, but this smells like something else. She is bothered by these feelings she has, so I guess that's saying something.

But she does have a big head.

I think our ignorance should invite shame, no matter the topic. I'll bet there are many people that want to "reward" her for her honesty, that wouldn't do so if instead of "little people" she were discussing, say, "black people." Does it make her a bad person? The good/bad dichotomy is stupid, and shouldn't approach this topic. Does it make her ignorant? Yes it does. It's perfectly okay to be ignorant. Just don't shy away from it.

What she said, and how she said it, were ignorant. That's bad for everyone around her, yes. But as long as it's acknowledged as ignorance, and potentially damaging, this little discussion of her's can illuminate others regarding their own ignorance.

Also, surprise! Rose O'Donnell is not relevant anymore, so this whole thing is moot.

Two things:

Isn't "little person/people" or "person of small stature" the P.C. term, as opposed to midgets?

Where were you, Anakin's Dad, when the site you're posting it on (CHUD) made jokes about Dinklage's height in more than a couple of articles? Where was the outrage?

Boatman's kind of right, though.

For one thing, I didn't see them.  But, as DarkMite8 already said, "The fact that Rosie makes these comments in a interview/chat makes it all the more bothersome. It's not a stand-up stage where uncensored comments are more for shock value and laughs, and don't necessarily reflect the views of the joke teller."

Nearly every time Dinklage comes up a short joke has been made. Either you weren't paying attention, or you're not reading the main page. Furthermore, the lines between what the writers on the main page believe and what they're saying for shock value/laughs is increasingly blurred here.

Or, "It's okay when CHUD does it, but not okay when Rosie does it. Got it."

If someone makes a joke about Dinklage's height, it's a joke.  A cruel joke, maybe, but a joke.  There's a vast gulf between a cruel joke and someone rationalizing their fear/discomfort of a particular minority because "their Nana was that way," or noting how you just can't understand how they reproduce. Replace little person with gay/black and see how ignorant it sounds.

And yes, I have, unfortunately, barely read the main page in months.

Chelsea's way more offensive about it in that video. Rosie seems to be legitimately trying to understand her own prejudice; Chelsea "wants to tackle them" and "bite them."

I dunno. Chelsea's tone is more shock-y and jokey. And congruous with the stuff she says in her monologues. Rosie sounds like she genuinely has issues IMO.

That's what I'm really saying. When it comes to comedy, every group is on the table.

Political correctness is a blight on society. I oppose it and stick to the classic terms on all occasions.

Let me guess, is liberalism also a cancer that is destroying our country from within? Those two phrases usually go hand in hand.

Well not to mention fat isn't something you can't change. If your tiny, there is no fucking growth serum.

Good comeback, internet tough guy.

Did you even listen to the whole thing? She conceded that it's wrong and she is trying to understand it, so she can maybe move past it. However she is a comic, it's common for them to express  their thoughts and feelings in joke form. If you stopped for a second and thought about it instead of immediately becoming a little bitch, you might have gotten that.

Not even close, but I guess it's easy to make that mistake.

Problems should be dealt with right out in the open, without forcing people to use "safe" words for fear of hurting everyone's increasingly fragile feelings. Everyone in this country has gotten so damned sensitive we all have to walk on egg shells or risk someone getting outraged. Look at Roland Martin, one little twitter joke and his career is over.

And, if you'd pull your head out of your ass and read some of these responses, instead of immediately jumping to the standard, "It's PC bullshit" argument, you'd understand that the major issue some of us have with this is that she WAS NOT JOKING.  This wasn't a comedy act.  This was two very public people laughing about the way they dehumanize a minority group.

I watched the clip, and I have to say, Rosie doesn't seem like she's cracking wise a la Handler. She might be erring a bit on the "too much information" side (as Rosie often does), but I thought Handler's talk about saving Chuy and biting him and thinking he's like "a little kid" was way more 'offensive', as it were. The only way to really overcome prejudice and bigotry is to be open about it, and not as an excuse to be openly prejudiced -- but be aware of our prejudices (we've all got them, like it or not) and work to change them. Rosie's not saying "I hate little people" dismissively -- the fact that she's made uncomfortable by them, for reasons she can't explain, even though she likes actors like Dinklage and was shocked by what happened to Martin Henderson. She's admitting she has a "problem" (an obvious prejudice), and is trying to work out why she feels the way she does, whether it's because of her aunt, etc.. Is this a conversation that should have happened in private? Probably. But I look at her struggling with this, and I think to be open about that is a little admirable.

I will admit that I have a phobia of Chelsea Handler.
