He also promises to respect the pacing and grammar of the “original,” though I don’t really know what he’s referring to.

Seeing that he's French, Gans is probably talking about Cocteau's stunning masterpiece. The one from which Shelly Duvall's Faerie Tale Theater (with Susan Sarandon & Klaus Kinski) borrows all the production design.

Even though SILENT HILL was a seriously flawed flick, I really wish the director of the amazing BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF were a lot more prolific.

EDIT: Cause I'm a dumbass.

The Cocteau classic is not a silent film.  It's available on Blu-ray and DVD from Criterion.  Anyone who claims to be interested in cinema simply has to see it at least once, no excuses.  Especially if you write for a film geek site.  Seriously, it's like a gourmet chocolate dessert for your eyeballs.

I'm more interested in this than the DelToro one.

It's not for lack of trying.  He's had AT LEAST two projects collapse recently (The Adventurer and Fantomas) due to funding being withdrawn by whatever independent party that initially promised it.  I would love to see this come to fruition, but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

Yeah, it sucks big time how Gans fared post Silent Hill. He deserves much better.

He most certainly does.

Absolutely, GDT needs to get himself back to Spain for a movie or two.

Shit, your right. I even own it and have seen it. Brain fart, I suppose. Must be the sumptuous B&W imagery that short-circuited my brain. Could nearly work as a silent film.
