For some reason this doesn't kick off until Dec 22 out here at the arse end of the South Pacific, but as soon as it does I'm going to be all over it. Until then I'll just have to make do with Insecure.

Mad props for "permastoned" by the way. Also for an intriguing insight into the function of the dozey sidekick type character on many comedy shows. Even I never considered that privilege angle before, and I'm pretty much a genius, so you must be supergenius.

Oooh didn't notice you've been covering Westworld. Look forward to catching up on the reviews when I get a chance.

I can't take credit for inventing permastoned.  It was common-ish slang where I grew up.

I can however, bask in the compliments.  For they provide my soul sustenance.

Terrific as always. I'd post under the actual article more, but as I've said before, it might seem like I'm stalking you there.

And the captions. Always with the captions.

I can't be the only one who thinks Lutz's casting is some sort of deadpan joke, can I?

Random Note:  When I was polling a Chud crew in years past, dramas tended to dominate the final lists.  On my lonesome this year, it's a 7-3 split in favor of comedies (and I still haven't decided which will get the top spot).  Maybe that's just me in general or my being in a place that desperately needs to laugh at the moment, but I've also previously theorized that it's also because comedy tastes tend to be more esoteric and personal, whereas there is more consensus around what constitutes "prestige" drama.  So the more cooks you get in the kitchen, the more likely it is that Manchester By The Sea sweeps the Oscars, and Annie Hall goes home with a piddly screenplay trophy.

It also helps that this year's dramas are no where near the powerhouses they have been in previous years.  While I enjoyed Westworld, HBO's darlings True Detective, Night Of, Leftovers, Westworld, Game of Thrones have been disappointing in some respect or another. Most of the streaming service dramas like Man in the High Castle, or Narcos, or the Crown have their admirers, but the universal appeal isn't there.  There are individual pieces to praise, like Claire Foy and John Lithgow in the Crown (Honestly, the whole cast is amazing, even Porchie. The story just drags on in ways that don't do much.) or Wagner Moura in Narcos, but the whole is less than the sum of their parts.

I thought it was just me, but yeah, the drama crop this year felt seriously lacking.

Fargo, Better Call Saul, American Crime Story. I've not seen The Americans, but I hear good things. I think there was plenty of great drama in 2016. I admit, however, that there was a lot of shit too.

If anything this year stands a chance of knocking Manchester off the Prestige Perch, it's La La Land, which, like Annie Hall, showcases the Academy voters' hometown.

Annie Hall won more than just Best Screenplay, by the way...

My top shows for the year are all comedies. Crazy Ex, iZombie, BrainDead, Brooklyn Nine Nine.

Fargo aired in late 2015.  2 of the other 3 you mention made my cut, though.

I haven't seen Better Call Saul season 2, but the first was magnificent. I stopped with The Americans after season 2, but maybe I need to revisit

Oops! I really take that season-a-year thing for granted.

Schwartzblog is trying out Twitter, will probably have some garbled bon mots for some of these other shows you guys mention in the next day or so.

I guess I'm just not meant to get the OJ love. Even including the tabloid preciousness, the performances just don't seem all that special.
