Sacha Baron Cohen BANNED from Oscars!

I'm tired of rolling my eyes at how stupid the choices these people make are.  That dead horse is glue by now.

Seriously, this is the first oscars pretty much ever that I just have no real interest in. This is coming from a guy who's seen every ceremony bar one since he was 7 years old and it used to be one of my favorite nights of the year. I can't tell if it's the state of Hollywood, the state of the Academy or just me, but something has seriously shifted with me and this gigantic self-congratulatory circle jerk. I honestly doubt I'll watch much further than Crystals opening to be honest.

Funny that this follows that recent piece about how the Academy is mostly comprised of 'old fuckin' white people.'

The Oscars have existed in their own self imposed bubble for the last decade.  I think they seem old and alien to most viewers by now.

The only thing more unsurprising than the Oscars is the constant bitching about the Oscars year after year. Seriously, has ANY award show drawn acclaim. It's impossible cause you're always going to piss people off no matter what you do. Oscars might seem old and boring voted by old white men but I'll take it over the more hot and youthful MTV Movie Awards voted by 13 year old girls.

So the Academy has clarified their stance as not anti Cohen or anti humor, but anti shill.  Evidently they don't like anybody self promoting as blatantly as Cohen has in the past, and from that perspective I can understand their stance.

Obvious publicity stunt.

I can certainly agree that the Oscar ceremony is a dull, stuffy, self-important affair, but I'm not sure that having Cohen show up in costume and hamming it up all over the place is the right solution. Especially considering his movie isn't even out yet, no one is familiar with the character, and things he says in character might be taken wildly out of context.

I think it's worth noting that Jacob is old, and I'm pretty sure he's white too.

Just have Evans as Captain America walk up to Cohen and punch him out onstage.  Then they perform "Star Spangled Man" which they would've been doing anyway if they had nominated it.
