“Witness 9” claims Zimmerman sexually molested her as a child

I was just coming to post this. I listened to the testimony, which is intense and harrowing. It really kind broke me. Of course, Zimmerman's attorney is like "this has NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING!" Creep.

Well, gross as it is, it doesn't have to do with anything.  Even if there was reason to believe that pedophiles were more likely to commit race-based vigilante shootings, the prosecution isn't allowed to introduce evidence of unrelated crimes to prove propensity to commit crimes.  Unless the idea is that Zimmerman killed Trayvon to cover up his child molestation ring, it's all completely inadmissible in the murder trial.

It doesn't have anything to do with the crime he's accused of, but it certainly has to do with his character and his credibility as a witness and a defendant. Don't think for a second this isn't going to matter to a jury.

That's exactly why it's completely inadmissible.

"Witness #9" is not just some random person, she is his cousin. I would think she could be considered a good character witness for the Prosecution since there is no doubt that defense will attack Trayvon Martin's character with "proof" from his twitter account

They won't. It wouldn't make any sense for a defense strategy. That would play right into racial profiling.

And allow the prosecution to introduce their own character evidence, which again, they otherwise totally cannot do.

There will be a day in court for the molestation charges. The question on my mind now is: what the fuck was Zimmerman's cousin doing on the jury? How could the prosecution possibly have let that slip through jury selection? DISREGARD THAT

Juror? I thought she was a witness.

I stand corrected. I could have sworn that I saw her referred to as "Juror #9" by the press. I had it wrong, it's "Witness 9."

I would not want to be in Florida when this piece of shit inevitably gets off.

Witness 9 told investigators that Zimmerman, who is about two years older than her, had sexually molested her from the age of six up until she was 16 years old, CBS Miami reports.

I'm sure that's a crime, per se, but is that molestation?

Err, yes.

Was that a serious question?

Am I understanding that he started molesting her when he was 8? Yikes. Where were the parents on that one.

Future wingnut response: "They were just playing doctor!"

Now you liberals want the government to regulate horseplay!

Well, it generally isn't child molestation under the law.  An 8 year-old can't commit child molestation, they commit sexual assault.  Which is still a crime, as Dahlia suggested.  Consent is not a defense to molestation, so every game of doctor would be a felony if this were not the case.

Again, this does not make what Zimmerman is accused of okay.  But molestation, by definition, involves an adult and a child.

The way I read the question suggested a much uglier thought (they were both kids, so what's the harm)? I apologize, since that's not the case.

However, given that the molestation allegedly continued until she was sixteen, that means at some point he became a legal adult while she was still legally a child. So, the molestation charge stands.

That's EXACTLY what they are saying all while saying it's not relevant to the case. Afterwards, some posters usually remind everyone Trayvon "abused drugs" and  was "Expelled numerous times" from school.

Maybe, maybe not.  This isn't my specialty, but states have various "Romeo and Juliet" clauses that say it isn't statutory rape if the participants are within a couple years in age of each other.  This obviously makes sense because you don't want to criminalize an 18 year-old dating a 17 year-old.  But that's for consensual relationships; I don't know if there's a similar distinction between child molestation and sexual assault when the victim and perpetrator are similar in age.

Let's hope the fuck there is that distinction. Jesus.

This thread makes me sure happy I'm not a lawyer. Just the knowledge of how some of this shit works makes me break out in hives.

Even if committed by a minor, it's still molestation.  I'm sure all relevant juvenile law applies, but it is the kind of thing that could involve police and courts, etc.  Also: it's worth noting that generally when a child molests it's because he is being molested himself.

It's not, was my point.  But it's a technical distinction, and saying that something is "only" sexual assault doesn't mean it isn't a huge deal.

Zimmerman & His Wife Spent $36K In 18 Days

Quote:
With the funds donated, Zimmerman and his wife spent $6,500 on Internet and phone bills, new cell phones for $300 each, paid off a year-long Verizon contract in full, installed a telephone landline for $2,500, spent $1,300 on a two-year AT&T Wi-Fi contract and paid off at least $7,000 in credit card bills. They used $4,378 on automotive expenses, making payments on two car loans while renting another for more than $1,500. Gas: $800. Zimmerman paid off a $3,000 loan to his parents, paid $5,000 for bond, spent $800 at the jail commissary and $600 on jailhouse calling cards. The couple spent about $1,300 on food and $400 on utilities and $1,900 on rent.

Zimmerman calls the Quran-burning preacher Terry Jones from jail. To ask him not to protest in his favor.

He says he wants to pray with that racist creep, have Jones come visit him in jail.

Yeah, Zimmerman is definitely nutballs, just a particularly calculating type of nutballs.

There's so much wrong with this it hurts.

I'm waiting until he buys more guns with that money before I jump out my window.  That will make the impact extra satisfying.

Wow.... It's just stunning.  How did we get to this place where a man kills another man and gets a windfall.  That piece reads like a lottery story.  This guy killed a kid and, in effect, won the lottery.  I wonder if the people who padded Zimmerman's wallet feel sick in their stomachs when they read that?  I'd love to know how that makes them feel.

The most sickening part of the whole thing are those transcripts of the calls between Zim and his wife, where they're crowing about how this is the best thing that ever happened to them, how it's the start of a whole new life. It's like something out of the Bizarro World.

Zimmerman’s hip-hop connection didn’t stop there. In call #107, Zimmerman's sister tells him that he needs to watch the Eminem video “I Need a Doctor," adding that the video reminds her of their situation.

She says, “The words now mean so much more." Zimmerman replies, “I'm so like Dr. Dre in the video.”

Am I the only one who believes that Fox News is going to throw a pity party for Zimmerman?

I hope Fox News doesn't find out about his affinity for rap. Everyone knows that music is for thugs decked out in hoodies, slinging iced tea.

Killing Trayvon Martin was "all part of God's Plan" says George Zimmerman.

Where? Tonight on Fox News, of course.

edit: Video Here:

Jeeeeesus.

I know it's been said before but that warrants saying it again.

FUCK YOU Zimmerman....

"god's plan" my fucking ass

Holy crap. A little remorse, dude.

"Do you wish you hadn't gotten out of your car?"

"Of course I wish that! If I had stayed in my car I wouldn't have shot a guy!"

Gobsmacked.  It's not even hubris, it's just... glazed-over stupidity.

My question is, can they use this in the case? I mean, if the charge is second degree murder hand he's sitting there going on national TV saying he wouldn't do a single thing differently and that he has absolutely no regrets, that kinda makes you think that it wasn't an accident or self defense, right? That he feels that Trayvon should have died no matter what, even before he got out of the car. I mean...fuck! Come on!

Yeah, that's a confession. It would be amazing if Sean Hannity was the guy that got this narcissistic creep an appointment with Ol' Sparky.

Scared the shit out of my roommates by yelling at the television when I heard that "God's Plan" line.

I'm surpirised your all not hitting on this bit

Q: "Do you feel you wouldn't be here for this interview if you didn't have a gun"

A: "No sir"

So in another words Zimmerman is admitting that his life was never in danger.

If he isn't hung out to dry after this shit, America deserves to go down in flames.

I think we're giving him a pass for not being able to navigate Hannity's crappy double negative question. That and he answered every question, "No, sir." Because he's just sooooo damn respectful.

He didn't know about SYG. I find that hard to believe since he stated it loud and clear after the shooting"I shot the guy in self defense!!" And now some posters on CNN would like to remind us all that the Martin's copyrighted their son's name cause they just want a paycheck....as they throw more money at Zimmerman so his wife can have a spa day this weekend
