In France they call it the Battle Royale with cheese.

Good, looking forward to this one. Sure it has many things in common with the awesome Battle Royale but it does look interesting enough, and different enough, to warrant a ticket. And after the misfire of John Carter  I need a fun adventure romp.

Deviating from normal orchestrated breakdown films, Hunger Games‘ most powerful creative tool is that everyone knows about the Hunger Games.

Does it do anything that RUNNING MAN hasn't already, beyond extending the prep time and target teens?

It doesn't really follow the same line as RM, because viewers go into RM hating the contestants. People are sad when he kills the Hunters. HUNGER GAMES feels like AMERICAN IDOL, just with killing instead of singing.

Gymkata! Hell yeah. Hmmm...expectations tempered. Was hoping Ross would surround himself with people who know action storytelling as that obviously plays a big part. Do people get names or are there a lot of faceless tributes who get butchered early on?

Lots of faceless ones. I mean, possibly their names get tossed up in some Hunger Games graphics. But as far as characters we get to know there are only a handful.

Fuck GYMKATA ...I'm digging the NO ESCAPE plug.

Nice review, Josh.

Those aren't fighting words, Booth, that's some mutually assured destruction shit.

Are there any good hand to hand fight scenes in this, Joshua?

Interesting to see how The Hunger Games is getting less of a response than Twilight here on these boards. Less hilariously bad maybe?

Guess that depends on how you grade hand fights. I'd say no. These are just normal kids, so its not like they're getting into martial arts battles. And I imagine the PG13 rating wouldn't have allowed for any brutal beating kills.

Probably because it doesn't shit all over an already established genre.

"HUNGER GAMES feels like AMERICAN IDOL, just with killing instead of singing."

Now that's a pull quote if I've ever seen one.

This thing has a whopping 91 percent on RT at the moment.
