Doctor Who: Season Eight

So the announcement of the Doctor's new companion seems as good a time as any to get the talk going on the new season.  And she's pretty easy on the eyes too:

Sigh...but she's not Karen Gillen.

The article makes it sound like there's more to this character than "some random Earth girl", which is a good start. The formula is getting stale. I realize the Doctor's always going to have a pretty girl as a companion, but the modern version of the show has been too formulaic with its companions.

I'm still hoping against hope that the Victorian/Silurian Samurai lesbian samurai couple would sign on as companions.

But then they couldn't get their own spin-off, which is what we really want, isn't it?

Can too! Just ask Sarah Jane!

Also, I said Samurai twice.

Did you catch that "tongue" joke? I'd have said samurai thrice.

I can't make a call based on one photo alone.  I'll miss Amy, though.

I hate when women put eyeliner on their bottom lid.   Nice tits.

What happened to Season Seven?  confused.gif

Amy who?  Just kidding.  I JUST got caught up with Doctor Who and I'm a big big fan of the series.  I like the description of this companion as a faster talker than the Doctor, that should be an interesting dynamic to have the new companion be a little nuts.  Will she be a love interest?

Since River Song and The Doctor are married, I doubt it. I would think that the Ponds find out what happens to River, and that is what causes their exit from the show.

I'm new to the new time travel thing, so forgive my ignorance.  What happens to River?  Aside from being put in prison for "murder"?

Since River and The Doctor are time travelers they are always meeting each other at different times. The first time 10th The Doctor meet her she later died so he wouldn't have too. Then again, time can be rewritten, so maybe it won't.

  New companion is damn cute.

Ahh I see.  That reminds me of one of my favorite quotes...

"Oh god, you're not an archeologist are you?"

"What's wrong with archeologists?!"

"I'm a time traveller, I point and LAUGH at archeologists."

I've never really found the actress who plays River attractive, especially when compared to Amy.   This new companion is even cuter.

I guess Richard Dixon has his own TARDIS and has seen it already?

It kind of sucks to be us non-time travellers who are stuck in 2012 waiting for season seven. frown.gif

Ugh, I saw the latest thread was for Season 7 and assumed the newest one was eight.  I'll just nip off and shoot myself in the head now.

Trailer to come at 6am Brit time.

From BBC, a series of scenes celebrating the show's 50th anniversary.

I guess it was natural that there'd be lots of Smith in that promo, and hey, I like the guy, but you'd think he was THE most important Doctor ever. Sheesh.

Also, frankly, that Hartnell speech blows away any bit of writing in the new show.

That's actually a fan made video that's been around for a while. Very good though.

It's almost like he's the guy currently playing the part!  And who, pray tell, is the most important Doctor ever?

Word is that Matt Smith's going to stay with the role through at least the beginning of 2014, which means he'll be third longest-tenured after Baker and Pertwee.

Tom Baker, duh.

Seriously though, I just think that if you're going to do an overview of the show throughout the years you shouldn't concentrate so heavily on the last two seasons. It's kind of myopic.

Good news on Smith, he is by far the best modern Doctor.

Also there was a poll run by the Dr Who offical Facebook page recently that voted Rose the best assistant ever........sometimes I hate fans.
