Of course I would spend $2.50 to read King. But get it free here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/su...796613-1954259

Now you just have to wait for the server to become available again....

Now if I could just get everything set up right. Consistent error message on the download attempt.

Help line is unhelpful. They tell me I just need to reset my proxy ... but don't know what settings I need, or where to find them.

Hm. Any ideas?

Well, I was able to get the reader, but I can't get the damn story. Too much traffic, I guess

Story is pretty good. Gotta great middle! Creepy. Eerie. Nice predicament for the protagonist. Like the resolution, but it's a kinder, gentler King -- deeply philosophical. Nice. Worth the time & effort.

Would've paid twice what I did for it. Wait -- spent nothing...uh ... still would pay twice that!

I've noticed that King's been doing that a lot lately, which is fine. I loved 'Hearts In Atlantis' and 'Bag of Bones'. I just hope he pulls no punches with the next Dark Tower book, which had better be out before I retire.

Yes, Johnny, King seems to be getting more "thoughtful" as his career ages. And it's a good thing. List your favorite King books, and I would venture to say that they fall into his early career, or late career. He had a spate of novels there in the middle that disappointed. But even bad King is good King -- if you follow my drift.

The next Dark Tower will be out summer of 3905.

Oh, good. I'll still be around about then.

Does anyone else find the Dark Tower books as an almost religous experience? Or is it just me?

Does anyone else agree that they're easily the best things he's written? I need some verification, here.

I do like Dark Tower considerably. I don't think it's his best, however. The Drawing of the Three and Wastelands were fantastic. Was a bit disappointed with Wizards and Glass.

I think my favorite King tends to be his shorter work -- The Mist, The Body, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, The Shining, Firestarter, The Dead Zone, The Dark Half, Bag of Bones.

Johnny -- have you read the Dark Tower novella in Silverberg's (edited) Legends? It's fun. Definitely deserves to be a seperate piece from the novels.

(drooling and panicking frantically) What are you talking about? What is it? What book? What's it about? OH GOD TELL ME!

Oh, Christ. I just found it on Amazon.com. Thank you, Blofeld. I take back all the nasty things I said about you and your mother at the booth. You are a hero, a savior, a prince among men.

Read it fast, Johnny. I'm gonna kill you.

I'm confused but I can accept death, I guess.

I think over in the Reader's Ideas Forum, you can find my ideal cast for the movies of The Dark Tower series. I loved all of them. The first one was only mildly interesting, but from there, it felt like I was getting a backrub from Shawnee Smith while rewinding DVDs. Heaven, I kid you not.

I can't find it. It's not all midgets again, is it DJ? Tell me where it is.

Hell, I can't either. I bet I know what happened. Brian's computer crashed a while back, and it wiped out some of the stuff in there . I'll just have to redo the damn thing. *sigh*

How long ago did you post it, deej?
Few months ago. No idea how long ago, really.
