Travolta, Hayek, Kitsch, Lively, Hirsch, Del Toro, Bichir team up for drug-dealing fun!

Savages is one of the best crime novels of the past ten years, so I'm practically hoping and praying that the movie is just a fraction as good as the original work.

For folks outside the USA, the trailer is up on youtube also I believe.

The trailer looks really good, I think.  Unfortunately I have no faith in Stone anymore.

Sure to make Quentin Tarantino's 2012 "nice try" list, regardless.

Yep. If he pulls it off, this'll be one of the best movies of the year. Trust.

Thirded on the novel.  It's the goods.  The trailer makes me HOPE that the film delivers on the promise of the novel.

As a huge Don Winslow fan, I'm not too optimistic about this. I don't think that any director could capture Winslows energy, especially this book. Just take a look at Bobby Z, very close adaptation of the novel but a complete failure.

That being said, if I hadn't read the book, I would be all over this. Fingers crossed that Oliver Stone knocks this out of the park.

I wonder how much of a spoiler Travolta's scene in the trailer is.  It was funny.

Maybe they stab him three times.

A FEDERAL AGENT??

You lie.

Agree with Bailey on this being part of Tarantino's "nice try" list. This looks like True Romance meets Man on Fire by way of Traffic, actually pretty psyched for this one.

Anyone who hasn't yet read Jane Hamsher's book on the making of Natural Born Killers (Killer Instinct) needs to do themselves a favor.  Oliver Stone used to be a fucking madman, and I hope for Savages he's gone back to his old bugfuck ways.

I'm gonna have to throw caution to the wind and go all in with this. I'm dying to love a Stone movie again.

Not very actually.

Travolta as Dennis is easily the most spot on casting of a literary character ever.

I wasn't as high on Savages as others where. I wasn't supposed to want the protagonists to get decapitated by the Baja Cartel was I? None the less, Winslow is a master.

That being said, when the hell is Frankie Machine getting made?

I'm with you on this one. That's probably my favorite Winslow novel.

All I want is a HBO miniseries of Power of the Dog.

There's hardly a Winslow book I wouldn't like to see filmed (an ongoing cable series based on the Dawn Patrol characters could be a surfside Justified), but my principal concern about Savages is that the distinctive narrative voice (not the character narrating the intro to the trailer) is so much a part of the book, maybe more than in any of the others, and I hope that they haven't just stripped the story down to a sequence of events, without that perspective. If there's a wild card, it needs to be the pairing of Hayek and Lively, whose characters aren't ones we've seen a million times before in stories like this.

Comes out on the same weekend as Spider-Man, right?

After that awesome-as-fuck trailer, if you go see Spidey before this, I dunno, I kinda don't trust you.

I'll probably see both, since my daughter's first in line for all things Garfield.
