THE AVENGERS (2012) Post-Release - Page 35

This is a big thread, I'm unlikely to read through it. But I just wondered, is Guardians of the Galaxy set in the same universe as Thanos and The Avengers?

Or, to put it another way, will Tony Stark ever meet Rocket Raccoon?

Yes and holy shit I hope so.

If this happens than Avengers 2 will be worth it being made in my book and will buy my ticket for it!

Yeah, I can't wait to see Robert Downey Jr. point out to the audience that he's talking to a raccoon. It will be so funny!

i hope it shits a lot and Stark is all like "oh brother"

About 20 pages back in this here thread, it was reported that Rocket Raccoon is indeed lurking in the background of the Cap/Thor forest fight. Haven't confirmed this for myself yet.

You're going to have to wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray to check that.

If that was actually true it would be the greatest thing ever.

He he.  *adjusts tie nervously.*

I would have to assume that whoever said that was making a lazy "talking forest animals are kids' stuff and I don't have time for whimsy and humor in my serious superhero movies" joke. I could be wrong.

Um...

neolong, is there something you'd like to tell the class?

It was a joke.  I made it up.  Jeez you guys, this is how rumors end up spreading.

Honey, how many times do I have to explain to you, don't feed the bottom feeders?

sorry

At least the Transformers talk has subsided. What the hell happened there for a page and a half?

HEY GUYS?

http://bileto.tumblr.com/post/28858678193

So far, the frontrunners are "I do not like the thunder guy", "my heart only shadows", and "bare ass big green man".

And yet, somehow, they managed to translate "mewling quim" to its proper modern English equivalent just fine.

Careful you don't get any gamma in your eye, Thor...

My Heart Only Shadows, a new film by Jane Campion.

I'm more interested to learn that Iron Man's Chinese name is apparently "Mr. Shi Take".

I'm guessing that was the closest phonetic equivalent to "Stark".

ETA: I need a bait and eyeliner.

Gag reel!!! You guys, it's a gag reeeeeeeeeel!!!

They should have kept the Cobie Smulders "COULSON!" breakdown in the film.  Would have made Maria Hill about 100% more interesting - it's too damn funny.

Thor juggling the Hammer is sublime.

The Captain America deleted that would've solved a MAJOR problem I had with the beginning of the film and the alternate opening. (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=66066)  Hit refresh in order to catch the videos.

The "man out of time" sequence is perfect.  Absolutely perfect.  You need this sequence in the film.  Not having it hurt the continuity between the ending of Captain America and this film.  Bad move by everyone involved to cut this sequence.

I was thinking the same thing. But I would've gone with more like 700%.

Aw man for the sake of three minutes I'm gutted that Cap sequence was ditched. That was a serious mistake. In fact having that scene after Fury declares that they need a soldier would have been perfect. I really enjoyed the film but the beginning sort of stumbles along. I completely agree Don that this would have helped.

The final films Cap montage intro feels horribly clunky and slap dash.  Now we know exactly why.

Completely and totally agree.  It always bothered me, during interviews of the film, that it was suggested that we'd wait for the sequel to Captain America to address his situation.  Add this three minutes and you don't have to address it at all.  This scene is a must, considering this film directly follows First Avenger.

Great move cutting out the Maria Hill opening, though. It's horrendous.

Double Post

The gag reel just underscores how much I dislike the updated suit for Cap. It looks very cheap and cheesy, and not in a "this is a fun and breezy comic film!" kind of way.

That Cap sequence also explains why we see so much of that waitress in the trailers and later on in the film.

Yep.  Seriously, it's only 3 minutes more.  They couldn't fit this scene in with the rest of the film?  The length of the film goes from 145 minutes to 148 minutes.  Was it that big a deal?

Great Stan Lee cameo in that sequence too. Wish they'd kept it in.

Everybody else got a reintroduction exactly that long. Cap got screwed.

That scene needs to be cut back into the film. Needs to.

Hell, they could have even skipped Cap looking at the files and just cut right from him shutting of the newsreel to him walking down the street.

Yep. Cap was the one character in the film that needed more story because of the nature how his introductory story ended. He's the "in" for the audience and this universe that's about to get introduced to a world outside our own...a more dangerous world.

Learning Peggy's still alive should be the deleted scene. But even that's a nice beat.

As a colossal Cap fan, my inner fanboy is kinda furious they couldn't add that into the final cut.

I have a feeling the Maria Hill and Cap introductions were cut due to tone. The music and content are somber, playing up the "we're at war and during war there are casualties!" aspect rather than the superhero aspect. The theatrical version, at the very least, doesn't dwell on the tragic nature of the characters.

Whedon has so much creative control now, it'd be easy enough to make this the opening of Captain America 2

That's going backwards, making it the opening scene to Cap 2. We needed to be in Cap's head space at the beginning of the Avengers.

Bah.  These videos don't seem to be loading for me.

Is Cap the audience surrogate? I think that was juggled quite well by Banner's approachability and Widow being in over her head, compounded with snippets of Cap being a fish out of water.

The individual movies are when the nitty gritty is explored. A teamup movie is mostly surface, with the biggest aspects of these characters clashing.

Cap is one of about five audience surrogates. There's empathy-provoking emotions and situations connected to all the major players - it's part of what makes the film so great. You might be a Cap, or a Banner, or even a Stark.

This is exactly the thing, I think.  The approach they decided to take the escalation of the movie is escalation.  As great as that Cap scene is, it would clash with the constantly escalating 'gathering up the team' aspect of the opening quarter of the movie.  Still, Cap does get screwed when you look at the intros for the other characters.  Hahaha

Cap's a special case, considering how we left him in First Avenger. I mean, he lost 70 years. Him adjusting to this new life, even in a team up situation like this and the fact that he becomes the "true" captain of this team, needs to be fully address. This 3 minute scene would've done it, in conjunction with the rest of the film.

It's a mistake cutting that scene.

Again, Avengers is a sequel to First Avenger and Thor. Those two needed to carry this film fully. They sort of do it in the film now. But, Stark is the only character in the film that actually has an arc.
