Speaking of Jessica Chastian - she'd make an aces Clea.

Probably seen as too old to anchor a franchise, but David Strathairn.

In the 80s? Hell yeah!

Wow, he would have been amazing. Willem Dafoe or Gary Oldman too. Where's our new crop of intense, stringy-looking unconventional leading men?

I'd love Liev Schreiber to get it.

Yeah, he's really only known for TV stuff, but Marvel will like the fact that he comes cheap. (Plus, hiring Dale means they can throw extra cash toward FX.) He's also usually playing a broody motherfucker (especially in AMC's dearly departed Rubicon), but I'm betting he can handle Strange's aloofness just fine.

Plus, come on -- look at him. That's Strange!

Gack! My pick is joining the Marvel Movie-verse. But as ... somebody I've never heard of!

Don't feel too bad.  My pick (Guy Pearce) is in Iron Man 3 too!

Well ever since the rumour/spoiler thread arrived, I now have my guy to champion and I'll champion him all the way home...

gal-port-joeledgerton-496x620.jpg

...and he's already kicked Banes arse anyway.

I can definitely get behind that!  BTW, I finally sat down and watched the recent Dr. Strange animated movie.  Really dug it!

Also, for a bit o' fun, who should play Mordo?

I love Saxons Viggo idea personally.

Other than that it should be someone that hasn't played a villain before and needs the career bump while still being able to capture the look of the character...

Oh that's easy. He should have some sub-continental heritage and this legend is long overdue to play a good guy in a movie anyway...

Unfortunately like many of our picks in this thread, he also has been claimed by Iron Man 3.  And likely not as a good guy.

Isn't Hollywood contractually obligated to offer any "elder mentor" roles to Anthony Hopkins and Liam Neeson before they go to anyone else?

But more seriously...James Hong?

Chow Yun-Fat perhaps?

I'll throw my hat into the ring to support this "Edgerton (sp?) as Strange" movement. I'm just glad to see we've moved past the "Michael Fassbender should play everyone" phase of the fancasting process.

James Hong is where my mind was going as well.  It's a shame that Mako is no longer with us though.

Sorry but, in this particular case, Fassbender IS the best choice for Dr. Strange. He possesses a lithe, masculine elegance that's intrinsic to the character. The other actor picks don't have that. Keanu would be a runner-up in that respect.

Agreed, but...like Pearce, Dale, etc...we can't have him!  No sense in crying over spilled mancrushes!

Plus his mother has a tattoo that reads "Son"

Well, not with THAT attitude. We live in a world where Captain America is also the Human Torch. In the past tense, yes, but still...

Hey, I'm gonna be talking up Fassbender's name up until Stephen Strange actually gets cast. It ain't no fanboy crush. The guy IS Dr. Strange as much as RDJ IS Tony Stark. It's really that simple.

Well, if lithe masculine elegance is the main component, then clearly the role should go to Orlando Bloom.

I don't dislike Orlando Bloom but I won't have him as Strange. I'm still all in for Adrien Brody at this point. Vincent Cassel as Mordo. Yun-Fat as The Ancient One.

Bill Campbell?

I hate to be all university educated chardonnay quaffing wankbag, but The Ancient One's meant to be from Nepal originally, thus making a Chinese actor an uneasy fit in my mind (it's why I discoun ted Ken Watanbe and Tony Leung as well) and why I went for Kingsley (forgetting he was already snapped up for IM3 damn it).

I know he's my go-to dark and swarthy smart guy but how about Siddig?

Please forgive my cultural insensitivity. How about Om Puri?

How about Joel Grey in "Asian" makeup playing The Ancient One?

I'm not sure if I'm joking or not.

Nah I was probably being a wanker.

Puri I could definitely get behind.

He's only in his late forties, but what if you aged up Bollywoods reigning leading man SRK, Sharukh Khan? He's big enough to deserve some cross over western success, and you'd instantly get an audience of billions excited about your little Hollywood movie...

I just wish Omar Sharif was still around.

(No, I don't really know what that means.)

This is true, but the Fantastic Four films were kaput by the time they made Captain America..........whereas we are currently sitting in the middle of an X-Men: First Class trilogy.  That's a bit of a difference.  I would LOVE for Fassbender to play both roles, but would Feige and Marvel Studios be willing to allow it?  Seems doubtful to me.  Having Ray Stevenson possibly continue playing Punisher while he is still Volstagg.........or allowing Idris Elba to play a few side characters in Marvel films (and supposedly talking to him about a leading role as well) is a little different.  Is it fair?  Of course not.

Yes, Fassbender would be perfect for Stephen Strange.  I'm just tempering my expectations.

I like Billy Campbell. Like the movie itself, he's All-American, unassuming, and earnest. He's not Harrison Ford, but I think he fits what this film is perfectly. The rest of the cast rounds out perfectly too.

Christopher Lee, if the actor is up to it. My only concern is his age and he wouldn't be- realistically, around for scores of sequels so if he is selected let him have a student in training and continue from him. But if Lee is healthy enough let him do it and a lot of sequels. Lee is one of the true greats.

How about an unknown? Who's hot on TV right now?

I'm always up for more Christopher Lee, but are you talking casting him as Strange or casting him as the Ancient One, or casting him as Mordo?

To be honest, until 1999, I thought Christopher Lee was Vincent Price who was Dr. Strange.  Where is the Recast 1965 Dr. Strange starring Christopher Lee?

ETA: Because in 1965, you couldn't have gotten Price.

Marvel had the hots for Jensen Ackles when they were casting Captain America, but he had to bow out when Supernatural got renewed for another season.  Considering the show is still running, I doubt he'll be free for any role that they might want him for in the near future though.

If Chris Evans can go from Human Torch to Captain America, maybe Ioan Gruffudd can go from Mr Fantastic to Dr Strange?

Ioan Gruffudd is so boring that I almost fell asleep writing this sentence.

I think you misspelled his last name.  I could swear there are three z's in there somewhere.

Oh, fine then! (I kinda like Gruffudd but I'll grudgingly admit that he's not Captain Charisma.) Maybe THIS TV star is more to your liking:

Yeah, I like him more. Not bad at all. What about Jason Isaacs? Too old?

I could see them considering Bradley Cooper. He'd be decent choice, maybe.

I could defiantly go for Lewis.

I'd be fine with Lewis as well.

Timothy Dalton or Alec Baldwin for a nice 1987 Dr. Strange movie

Jason Patric.
