The Ukranian and Intern Guy are the usual so-so Dexter subplots, although I think the intern seemed more interesting here that at any point last season.
I disagree about Laguerta, though, because it seems she will become part of the primary storyline in a way that could be suspenseful and dramatic. I'm probably overrating it a bit because she's SUCH a useless character, but I'll take that over her and Angel bickering about their relationship any day of the week.
The Ukranian guy is leading to Ray Fucking Stevenson coming after Dexter, so that's aces in my book.
The intern will hopefully be dealt with soon. He's a tie to the worst and needs to go.
Laguerta's ties to Doakes are probably her most interesting character traits. The last time she didn't suck was when she had to deal with everyone believing Doakes was the Bay Harbor Butcher.
Probably the best thing about the premiere is how it fixed so many of the show's narrative problems. Dicey Laguerta story? Gone. Cipher new super-detective? Excised. Interminable Deb missing what Dexter is? Over. Good cause for optimism.
