Speaking of Strange Days, The Thirteenth Floor is another cyberpunk movie that just came and went.

Speaking of movies with Jennifer Connelly standing at the end of a pier, Dark City.

... or CREEPERS. I don't know how it did overseas (as PHENOMENA), but it didn't make dime one in the U.S.

Creepers/Phenomena is a gory horror movie. Was it ever supposed to be a "hit" as such? God bless her, but Jennifer Connolly has never really been a box office giant.

Strange Days has all of JC's usual scripting/characterisation issues - so it should have been a hit (Snark LOL) but the subject matter in Bigelow's hands becomes a weird mix of cyberpunk through the prism of mainstream bleaugh and creepy arthouse provocations. And remember that Cyberpunk didn't work in cinema til The Matrix - it pretty much hasn't worked since either, until Inception came along.

"REQUIEM FOR A DREAM should have received Oscar attention."

Well, Ellen Burstyn got nominated and her part of the movie was head and shoulders above the other stuff - so they were paying attention. Showing a person being completely destroyed by an obsession with a shitty TV show was incredible, but it made the rest of the movie seem banal by comparison. Unfortunately the only thing people really remember is the double-headed dildo. Black Swan seems to have been informed by that lesson to an extent - both the non-drug scene form of addiction and the girl-on-girl thing.

I think calling Inception "cyberpunk" is a bit of a stretch.

I'd go so far as to call it completely incorrect.
