THE EXPENDABLES 2 Pre-Release Thread

After the PG-13 debacle, i've been seeing signs that this might work out after all.

A Sly vs Van Damme fight. Thats worth the price of admission right there.

felix,...Might work out?  I expect...Expendables 2, to make most of it's competition...Expendable!

Is it just me, or is there a laughable delay when Ahnuld rips the door off and throws it.

felix, The Trailer to Expendables 2 is...EXcellent!

Pretty much. Though I personally hope they won't make a third, before they get into Death Wish territory and people start getting crippled or dying for real.

I'm just happy to see the return of the Split-Kick, even if the movie ends up being ass like its predecessor.

I've to say that Van Damme looks years younger in that Trailer. The best he's looked in a long while.

This movie looks to be the perfect mix of mayhem, explosions, and stupid one-liners that I so dearly miss from the golden days of the 80's.  This movie also comes out shortly after my birthday and will be my delayed present to myself.

I'm only seeing this if Chuck Norris is offed in some gloriously terrible fashion to contradict the "Chuck Norris" meme, because Chuck Norris is an asshole.

I guess my seeing this in the first place was unlikely, given how much I disliked the first one.  It was kind of embarrassing to see these people try to recapture the "glory days".  And seeing so many of them, often in the same room, try to act made me more appreciative of any stretch back in those 80's action flicks where they didn't speak a word at all.

Draco Senior, If you disliked the original then why see the sequel?  I cannot wait for this film.  To me there are...5 summer films, worth seeing...

1) The Avengers 5/4

2) G.I. Joe Retaliation 6/29

3) Expendables 2 8/17

4) The Amazing Spider-Man 3D 7/3

5) The Dark Knight Rises 7/20

I'm in.  I enjoyed the first one well enough on a "Seniors Tour" level.

Arnold ripping the door.

I'm in. Bring on COPS AND ROBBERS 2!!!

I've been in since this movie was announced. The trailer just further solidifies that this is going to make the summer end with a BANG.

It's crazy how awful that Batman movie looks now.

My favourite of the bunch.

Van Damme looks like Wesker from the RE games.

That is not a bad thing; hell, it gives the movie more charm in my book.

With the mugs on Van Damme and Stallone, there's a "face-off" pun in there somewhere I'm just not clever enough to distill it.

Rene (Mr.Eko), I agree.  The Trailer looks...Glorious!

Moltisanti, I do not think that The Dark Knight Rises looks...bad, but it definitely, is in the lower tier of my expected top 10, compared to this...Awe-Inspiringly, Awesome Sequel to the 2010 film without...Equal...The Expendables!

Orange TV Spot (Credit to Jox for this).

I'd be excited for this if it was cast this way instead!

Loved the ever-living shit out of the new trailer...and so have all the audiences I've seen it with in theaters.  I have a feeling it's going to do a decent bit more business than the first one.

The new TV Spot is the best one i've seen so far.

I love the "also" before Van Damme. I don't know if I've ever seen that in a trailer before. It's the kind of quirky touch Quentin Tarantino or Robert Rodriguez would throw in. Reminds me of the way they'd stick stuff like "special guest star", "featuring", or "and introducing" (before a well-established actor) in cast credits.

Bet you wish you had this in your living room.

Shame Adkins isn't included, but badass nonetheless.

Oh yeah, that would happily be displayed in my living room.

Whatever demographic I'm in, this trailer is like crack for it.

DE...lectable!

I'm glad that they finally included Scott Adkins with that "Last Supper" banner.

Went to Carl's Jr. to nab an EXPENDABLES 2 "limited edition" cup. Quite a letdown. When I heard "limited edition" I envisioned a firm plastic cup. A legitimate keepsake. I'm not sure what material it is exactly but it's not much more sturdy than a typical fast food cup. Not a chance in Hades that's it's dishwasher safe.

Also it only features a shot of Stallone. How about a cast shot from one of the posters? Where's the harm?

I hope the cup is not indicative of the finished film, but I'm disappointed nonetheless. No substance at all. Feels much more like THE BOURNE LEGACY of cups.

Moltisanti, Obviously Carl's Jr decreed the cup...Expendable!

No substance indeed! That's the impression I got from watching Expendables 2 trailers. Yes, the cast list is stacked. Yes the Van Damme vs Stallone matchup should be badass. Yes, a lot of shit blows up. But the rest, mainly the dialogue, seems corny and forced. Arnold says "I'm back" like from another movie. Someone tells him "he's terminated," again, from another movie. I didn't see the first one but this one seems pretty dumb. Sorry guys.

Well you're entitled to your opinion. Now go to hell.

Now that's more like it. I'm already starting to forget about that cup.

There are more reviews if you do a google news search. Looks like 6 positives and 1 negative. The one negative is the only review up on RT.

I also watched parts of the EXTENDED BANTER CUT of the first Expendables. I still think it's better than the theatrical version. It's better right away!

Pirate: Bring de money hea!!!

Jet Li: I need-a money myself.

*confused Pirate reaction shot*

Apparently Jet has a small role in EX2, so hopefully he parachutes away at some point while saying "I NEED-A MORE MONEYYYYYYYYY..."

Apparently Nic Cage is attached to EXP3, and they're trying to get Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood.  No, this is not a joke.

Actually Wesley was supposed to have Terry Crew's part in the first one but Wes couldn't leave the country and they were filming in Brazil.

Anybody else wondering why Steven Seagal isn't part of this franchise and there's no news of him being invited to join? Popular theories seem to be that he's too fat or nobody likes him. Or both. There's also the fact that (as mentioned in the B Action Movie Thread), these movies require a lot of running, and he was never able to do that without looking pretty silly, even when he was in shape.

Whaddya think, Chewers? Does any particular theory seem more plausible to you than any others? Or have you got some other theories of your own? It doesn't bother me too much. I'm not a huge fan of his or anything.

I've only seen two of his movies ("Above the Law" and "Under Siege"), which I watched for the first time last summer. I decided to finally check out some work from he and Chuck Norris to find out why they were such '80s/early '90s action icons. The movies were fun, but his 'acting' was quite jarringly mediocre. I just think if this is to be the ultimate '80s/early '90s action stars reunion franchise, his presence in it seems like a no-brainer.

The story from a couple years ago, when the first film was being made, was that Seagal had bad blood with EXPENDABLES producer Avi Lerner. Time (and money) heals all wounds so we'll have to see if they can mend their strife for the good of motion pictures.

Naisu Baddi, I would rather have...Sam J Jones, Star of...Flash "He'el save everyone of us" Gordon.  SJJ was also in an excellent B Action Film Silent Assassins, and was The Highwayman for Glen A Larson!  I liked Seagal in Under Siege, but not much else.
