LITTLE SHOP OF JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT

JGL puts his back into the second remake of an oft-performed show.

I keep WANTING to be full-force on Joseph Gordon Levitt, but I can't help but think he's getting these high profile movies where he has to play relatively uncomplicated characters. He was really solid in The Lookout, but I'm just waiting for this guy to stop being handsome window dressing in good movies. Maybe this is the project that will make me change my mind.

Really?  This isn't some kind of joke?  Wasn't Mama Mia the last musical to do any good at the box office?  Even The Producers bombed hard.

Ignore Frank Oz wisdom at your peril gentlemen:

"They were ecstatic, applauding every number — until Rick and Ellen died, and then it turned silent. I learned a lesson: in a stage play, you kill the leads and they come out for a bow — in a movie, they don't come out for a bow, they're dead. And the audience loved those people, and they hated us for it."

Well, that was the alt deleted scene ending. Not the released one. Is he referring to a test screening?

Oz's flick has always been one of my faves and the stage show is my favorite musical hands down.

Are we positive this will be a musical version? Anyone know if JGL can sing? To at least Moranis standards?

Over and under on a CGI Audrey 2? That practical puppet is one is the finest in-camera FX ever IMO and can't be beat.

I think people are going to be impressed with him in Looper.  He brings a lot of Bruce Willis into the performance without doing a Bruce Willis impersonation.  It's definitely something different from him.

And, considering his recreation of "Make 'Em Laugh" on SNL, he seems like a pretty perfect choice for a new take on a classic musical.

I was wondering the same thing.

Was that for Marc Webb's 500 DAYS OF SUMMER?

It was just Zooey and JGL being way too fucking adorable*. But dude's a tenor.

*I kinda love it as well. I'm just a big softie.

Seymour's songs are all tenor level, and JGL could do it. My actual biggest question is who becomes Crystal, Chiffon, and Ronnette? This is one of my favorite musicals as well, so I would be happy to see another version. Especially if they do Mushnik and Son and Now It's Just the Gas.

Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce and Rhianna.

Yawn

What more is there to do with this story to be honest? And yes the plant will be CGI and yes it will be a step down from the practical effects. I'm more worried that they would be crazy enough to try and have someone duplicate Steve Martin's insane performance.

I was thinking the same thing. Martin's performance in Little Shop is dialed up to 11 and such a joy to watch.

However, I can think of one possible choice that could work.

If he can also sing, they need to sign up Rockwell.
