The John Kennedy Toole novel that has killed many a comedian is targeted for adaptation once again.

I love Zack, but given the positive response to "Bernie", i think a subdued Jack Black would be perfect as Ignatius; however, lets face it: this is one HUGE monster of an adaptation; the book is fairly unique and its humor and characters would be really hard to nail onscreen.

Voting a strong "no" to this.

Weird, I posted a fantasy casting of this over at the Cast Your Favorite Books thread just a few days ago.

Though either Galifianakis or Black could potentially be an adequate Ignatius (Galifianakis moreso), they both seem much too short for the role. Ignatius is a great, blubbery mountain, not a round little hobbit. We shall see. (And I'll add my voice to those hoping this doesn't lead to Galifianakis going the way of John Belushi, John Candy, and Chris Farley.)

Every time adaptations of this great book have come up, I've always cringed, but I think Galifianakis could work.

Josh Mostel in his prime could've been a good Ignatius.

I always felt that a younger Philip Seymour Hoffman would have done well with this role...like knock it out of the park kind of acting.
