You started this thread just to show off that Mondo Poster, and I don't blame you. One of the most beautiful posters I've ever seen. Wow.

2. Up (Pete Doctor and Bob Peterson, 2009)

Cizgi%20filmleri%208.jpg

Maybe too young to be considered a "classic", but dammit, it IS.

4. Rock & Rule (Clive A. Smith, 1983)

rocknrule01.jpg

While any number of Disney classics deserve to take this spot, this cool & crazy entertaining "I can't believe this movie exists!" cult classic comes in at #4 for three reasons:

1. Lou Reed

2. Blondie

3. Iggy fucking Pop

THE landmark of American feature film animation.

10. Ninja Scroll (Yoshiaki Kawajiri, 1993)

15. The Emperor's New Groove (Mark Dindall, 2000)

I don't know how this movie happened, but God damn am I glad it did. Best Disney movie since The Lion King, a better Shrek than Shrek, and Eartha Kitt is just terrific. Also it's got Tom Jones, you can't argue with that.

Sure, it's not EXCLUSIVELY animation, but it deserves to be on here anyways.  It's a hell of an achievement.

Epic animation and storytelling, Hamlet with lions. James Earl Jones ftw

39. Fire & Ice - Ralph Bakshi

Sure the story is refried nonsense but this is a sumptuous feast for the eyes. It's a Frank Frazetta painting given life.

Yeah, I was used to Dreamworks animation being essentially a total disappointment. This seemed like Pixar work.

Fire & Ice is the first one I really disagree with.  I think it's ugly, boring, and barely more than a rotoscoped live-action film.  And it does Frazetta's style no favors at all.

45. The Last Unicorn (Arthur Rankin/Jules Bass, 1982)

I know its all subjective Rich, but by this logic wouldn;t you consider Wizards inclusion in the list suspect as well?

No, because I think Wizards has some real humor and imagination to it, as well as some real animation.  Fire & Ice literally looks like Bakshi shot the entire thing on film and just painted over it.  There's no artistic animation, no style, just ink and paint slapped over moving images.  And it just never involved me.

For 47, I'm going with Don Bluths greatest film and the one I'd argue he spent the rest of his career trying to live up to, The Secret Of NIMH...

He had much greater financial success with later films, but never touched this oen as far as quality goes imo.

Totally fair enough, I'd take a guess and say I was probably decidedly younger when I first saw it than you were, so nostalgia may be golouring these old eyes too.
