Weird left-field things for which actors get type-casted?

Mads Mikkelson has ocular injuries in many of his films:

EXHIBIT A

Michael Ironside can't seem to keep his limbs attached:

EXHIBIT A

EXHIBIT B

Bela Lugosi and Natassia Malthe have both played vampires in their respective franchises (DRACULA, BLOODRAYNE), vampires in OTHER films, but ALSO werewolves as well.

Others?

*Not talking about "Boy this actor/actress always plays a villain/sarcastic underdog/BFF in a romantic comedy!" Think outside the box.

Sean Bean dies in all of his films. Usually in spectacularly cruel fashion.

Leonardo DiCaprio has a wife who kills herself and he is either killed or driven insane/rendered delusional by the end.

Reminds me of this one...

Jeremy Renner can enter an established franchise as a government agent no sooner than the fourth film.

Luke Goss as the albino baddie with Daddy issues in superhero sequels directed by Guillermo Del Toro.

Timothy Olyphant only accepts roles in cable series if he gets to wear a cowboy hat.

Alfred Molina keeps showing up in films with Lego licenses and gets a mini-figure made of his character. It's the only explanation for Prince of Persia.

(Seriously, he's had figures of three completely unrelated characters, and I think the only other person who's even had two is Harrison Ford)

What's the first one? His character from FRIDA?

Raiders of the Lost Ark I think.

Adios, Sapito.

If that's true, that would have to be the most obscure Lego figure ever.

I have noticed a couple with Tom Cruise over the years.  I don't think they're really typecasting, but something he seems to be drawn to.

One: He always played someone trying to live up to his father.  Which is not so uncommon, but it seemed he had a lot of roles like that early on.

Two: He's played a lot of roles where facial disfiguration, or masks are involved.  From the MI movies, to Eyes Wide Shut, Vanilla Sky, Minority Report, even in Interview with the Vampire he becomes horribly shriveled after he has his throat slashed and he has to go underground for years.

I also noticed Stallone's movies seemed to feature past work related tragedies he was trying to get over.  Daylight and Cliffhanger come to mind off the top of my head, but I think there were a few more.

James Marsden always seems to be cast as the "other" boyfriend who isn't a jerk or a bad guy, but ends up getting screwed over.

X-Men

Superman

The Notebook

John Cusack is almost always a widower or divorcee these days.

Jennifer Lawrence is getting typecast as a tough-as nails older sister from a poor, repressed rural environment. With a semi-useless mother.

It is true, and I don't think it's even the most obscure Alfred Molina Lego figure, quite frankly.

Jodi Foster is cast as a female.

the Species one is very wierd.

I think the set was "Impregnation Bedroom Set".  Two sided head piece two, one for joy, the other for terror.

I'm still waiting for Jude Law to be cast as Harry Palmer so he can complete his trilogy of Michael Caine remakes.

Ever since The Faculty, Robert Patrick has played an authority figure (sports coach, military, cop, government agency, etc.)

Until he meets Tony Soprano

Even as a Terminator, he's still impersonating a cop.

Mark Wahlbergh always plays characters who seem to have a had a Sense of Humor bypass? Even in the comedies the jokes seem to rely on his seriousness or obtuseness.

Just a question to the OP - didn't the spellchecker alert you to the fact that "casted" isn't a word? Does your browser not put a little line under incorrect words and spelling? I know Chud doesn't have the right-click list of alternate choices/spellings, but pop a tab and hit the dictionary if in doubt.

For the record it's Typecast: "You will be Typecast" "You are Typecast" "You have been Typecast". Same with plain ol' "Cast". You can use "Casting" for the Act Of.

I've seen "casted" misused around the place before, but I had to ask because...technology make right word good.

One thing I noticed about Wahlberg early on was he played characters who seemed to have self-esteem issues/really wanted to be liked.

Add Enchanted to that list

The first lego figure is from Boogie Nights pre-mustache.

Sigourney Weaver seems to be on her way to being typecast as "Surprise, Menacing Authority Figure Who Shows Up at the End and Gets Killed."

Devin had that short piece a while back about Patrick Wilson always being cast as an emasculated male.  Sometimes literally.  And even when he's in a superhero movie.

Was going to add Enchanted to the James Marsden list, but was beaten to it. I don't know how to delete my post so Ill just edit it...

Some of these are hilarious. The "Death by stampeded off a cliff" is spectacular. Can't believe that's really in a movie.

That video pissed me the fuck off because it spoiled a film he did recently that I was interested in. To even mention the name is a fucking spoiler but it is obvious what happens if it is featured in that video.

HA, Cracked.com just did an article about James Mardsen and how he is always the most screwed over guy on screen.

http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/the-most-screwed-over-man-in-history-movies/?wa_user1=1&wa_user2=Movies+%26+TV&wa_user3=quickfix&wa_user4=feature_module

so, how do I sue them?

See also: Jared Leto. Frequently defaced.

ETA: There was a period in the 90s where it seemed Gabriel Byrne had to get beat up at least once per film.

Or at least markings.

King Arthur.  Casino Royale.  Valhalla Rising.  Clash of the Titans.  The Three Musketeers.  Who wants to place bets on some sort of oddball eye thingy for his Thor 2 character?

I think Susan Sarandon is playing a teacher who seduced a teenager again in the new Adam Sandler Movie, like she did on 30 Rock.

There's nothing left-field about casting Susan Sarandon as a MILF.

yep. add D-Tox & Demolition Man to that list. And that silly prison film he did with Kiefer's dad.

Often Christopher Lee's evil is in service of a higher power Lords of the Rings, Wicker Man, Star Wars,  Dracula, Bond etc

It's a sad world where Donald Sutherland is reduced to being "Kiefer's dad".

Re: Tom Cruise and Jared Leto playing disfigured.

I think that's just makeup and effect peole having fun uglying those pretty boys up. I bet they even do it when the script doesn't call for it.

If I meant that, you could throw another dozen roles in.

I mean specifically she plays a teacher who had an affair with an underage student and got sent to prison both in 30 Rock and in the new thing. It's just an oddly specific role to play twice.
