For all intents and purposes Crysis 3 may as well be a mission pack for Crysis 2. Not that this is inherently bad of course. If they manage to put some Crysis 1 in the Crysis 2 engine I'd consider it a win.

Red Dead Creed still looks amazing. Field of view on the camera bugged me a little during the demo, but still solid stuff. I really should get around to starting up Revelations.

New game from ubisoft. Watch Dogs: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Person of Interest: THE GAME more or less?

New Aliens Colomial Marines footage coming out of E3!

Seems like E3 was scaled back up this year.

Maybe I'm crazy but I think the South Park game looks really good.

this has the potential to be phenomenal.

Oh and the new SPLINTER CELL...looks like the fucking tits.  I am huge SC mark from waaaaay back when.  I love the direction they are taking the franchise...but seriously no Ironside??!?!?!?!

Any word on Sleeping Dogs yet perchance or is that one not being covered at this E3?

Watch Dogs action looked fun (even if a little too GTA) but that setup to get to the action?  That'll get old 3 missions in.

Heh.  If that set up was a good representation, and it's as open ended as they're making it look, there could be no action at all!.  Maybe that's just me.  My understanding is there's a few games for people who just want to shoot things already.  Or so I've heard ;)

Didn't watch the conferences other than bits and pieces of the MS one because I had the chance to go watch The Raid and seriously, fuck them in comparison.

Judging from what I've read today it was a nice call. Watch Dogs is the one pleasant surprise of the show I've seen and quite possibly the first Ubisoft game I'll have bought early and on full price in years. I think Far Cry 2 was the last one. The continued bro-ification of Dead Space was by far the worst surprise of the show. Why the hell must all games appeal to everyone?

Fuck this planet, indeed.

Oh, and finding out that despite its atrocious marketing campaign Hitman seems like an actual Hitman game was nice too.

Edit: EDGE's article about the MS conference is spicy as hell.

Ironside is narrating. It's a younger Fisher.

I'll go into this more in a post later, but I cannot agree more about Dead Space. Easily the biggest disappointment of the show so far.

The thing about MS is that they're in the lead, know it, all the reasons why that's the case have never, will never change, and all they really have to do is keep on keepin on. Which is why the focus is on the system as an entertainment box so hard. It's the one area they can continue to build, and are doing that very thing extremely well.

Doesnt change the fact that Sony mopped the fucking floor with 'em games-wise last night, though.

is this confirmed?  How does that even make sense given the advanced tech they are showing off in the game.

Two more nice articles:

First again from EDGE, about SONY's press conference and how it signified how little they care about VITA.

Quote:
And that was your lot. No true surprises, no grand new announcements, no disruptive cloud gaming deal. Just more of the same....for the moment we're wondering why we spent £220 on a controller for LittleBigPlanet 2.

And from Rock, Paper, Shotgun an article by John Walker about his distaste towards E3 and what it represents.

Quote:
After alternately watching live feeds of the press conferences last night, and watching colleagues’ reactions to them on Twitter, I awake with a heavy cynicism for the entire industry. While a couple of new IPs were announced, and they were perhaps even interesting, the overwhelming message of the LA evening was one of partisanship, stagnation, and a disturbing lack of awareness of what is most problematic in the gaming world. Which can pretty much be summed up in the frighteningly repeated phrase, “With exclusive DLC for our console.”

...

But both Microsoft and Sony are making announcements about games that will likely be out then. Which leads to a confusing, stilted release list that has to pretend the current consoles are the state-of-the-art must-haves for every excited kiddy, while everyone knows they’re bargain bin material about to be superseded.

...

punctuated throughout the night by producers holding controllers and pretending to control cutscenes like kids in a service station yanking the steering wheels of the driving arcades while “INSERT COIN” flashes on screen

I don't necessarily mean shooting when I say action.

Look at the amount of time he just (slowly) walks around.  I enjoy Assassin's Creed, but that game gets that there are times to force the player to blend in and go slow in small periods only, or longer periods if they're able to keep the tension ratcheted.  Maybe I'm just too OCD, but I was getting bored in the first half of that demo.  The second half was fantastic (did a good job of showing action, cool use of abilities and the possibility of using those abilities on the fly).

Skipping 1313's awesome graphics and focusing on gameplay for the most impressive thing I've seen so far. Dishonored gameplay demo. The developers confirmed that you can go through the entire game without killing anyone and the following exchange took place:

"If the player can control animals and go anywhere, doesn't that break the game?"

"That's the point."

LOVE IT. Exactly what I expect from people who were involved in games like Arx Fatalis, Deus Ex and System Shock to be making.

I really love the original Coruscant concept art from the 1980s and the idea of the city planet, but an entire game set in the underground? It sounds like it might get grim and repetitive, like the endless sewer levels in Enter the Matrix. It would be great if they brought in Black Sun and Xizor and set this game during Shadows of the Empire. Hopefully the lead is a better character than "Star Killer". Is it too much to ask for playable Dengar, IG 88 or perhaps even Boba Fett?

Meanwhile Aliens Colonial Marines has a great looking booth this year, it was art designed to look like a section of the Hadley's Hope. The excitement is building around that title, driven by 25 years of fan anticipation. I can't wait.

Holy shit, Watch Dogs blew me away! The Last of MOTHERFUCKER is obviously impressive, too.

1313 looks promising but I'm getting a saber-less TFU-vibe. Disappointed you're human.

Halo, Gears and Dead Space, ya'll be borin' me.

Believe the Castlevania: Lord of Shadows hype.

Motherfuck a Wii-U.

To be honest 1313 mostly speaks to the graphics whore in me. It's just nice seeing a game ignore the ancient hardware that is currently in consoles.

However, I implore you to watch the Dishonored demo. Seriously.

Outside of The Last of Us, Watch Dogs, and Beyond, nothing really stood out to me.

1313 looks like Uncharted in a giant space boiler room. I don't know what good can come of that.

The remainder of the year will be, for me, about pinning hopes on Borderlands 2, X-Com, and Dishonored. The big wildcards are Sleeping Dogs, Forza Horizon, and Far Cry 3, assuming Ubisoft can get their shit together on that one. Dead Space 3 and Lost Planet 3 will cost you $20 used by next summer, I'm sure. Shame about the former. I've been majorly bummed out by 2012's buffet of games so far.

On the plus side, we're looking at another tempting Fall, which gets even sweeter if GTA V makes that window (which it won't). On the downside, there's not much I'm looking forward to in 2013 besides (maybe) Watch Dogs and BioShock.

cant wait to get home and watch the DISHONOURED stuff, and the 1313

I am still really intrigued about WATCH DOGS...I want to believe that set piece was not handed to you with only one option to success.  I would think not, but the traffic light hack is so fucking bad ass...that it was almost too cool to believe it was truly not designed to be won that way

It reminded me fondly of one of my all time favorite gaming moments when I played GTA 3 for the first time and had to kill mob boss before he entered his compound.  After failing repeatedly, I decided to carjack 5 cars and block the entrance to the compound and when the car in question showed up proceeded to roll a grenade under the pile up...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

All the streams are so shitty.

Unimpressed so far.

Edit: In the words of Conan, "To hell with you shitty streams!" I give up! I don't know if my PC is being a twat, if my connection is suddenly shitty or if the streams cross the Atlantic by telegraph, this year is unbearable. A huge step backwards form last year.

This one's working really well, though whether it's even worth it to watch... http://www.e3insider.com/conferences/

Nope, tried everything. Shit all around. Oh, well. Other than the usual Nintendo stuff it's mostly been "We have big boy games now."*

*This does not mean some sort of inherent superiority of said games nor that Nintendo's usual stable for games is for babies.**

**Mostly.

The big boy games have been crap. Youre not missing anything.

Despite having a brand new, unchallenged console, I'd have to say that was as uneventful and underwhelming as Microsoft.

Thread Starter

That's because they don't have much to crow about. Unless something big has been leaked regarding its hardware, the Wii-U according to developers is barely more powerful than the PS360.

Microsoft at least had SOME game content, some new entertainment features (i dont give a fuck, but if I was a sports fan, I'd be kinda psyched) and a few actual impressive hardware tricks. And, again, they have nothing to prove. Nintendo, at this point, has to win back EVERYONE. And they failed at it miserably today.

I'm all the more thankful. Their business model has survived far longer than it should have and I'll be happy to see them finally pay for it. You know it's a sad day when you succumb to rooting against a staple of your childhood, hoping they convince you not to buy their product and wish for them to follow in the footsteps of Sega.

I probably won't buy a WiiU, but Fatal Frame (or any horror game that uses a camera or night vision system) would be so much fun using that controller.

Reggie had a new game from Platinum Games to show off to Spike TV after the conference, but Keighley ran out their time talking about bullshit and they weren't able to show it. The lack of anything big and (more importantly) new hurt them a lot.

A smart company would've had that Aliens: Colonial Marines footage paired with even a 2 second shot of the motion sensor from the films on the controller's screen.

That MGS Revengeance footage will hold us.

Watch Dogs looks rad.

Last of Us looks brutal as fuck.

Far Cry 3 looks buttfuckingly insane.

Tomb Raider looks like fucked up, girl Uncharted.

Need For Speed looks like mothERFUCKING BURNOUT PARADISE 2 FUCK YEAH COCKSUCKERS!!!!

Assassin's Creed 3 looks cool, but the graphics feel old and if it's just more AssCreed, well...  Lego City actually looks really fun.

Beyond looks like a goddamn David Cage.  His stories suck, I don't give a good goddamn and the Bald Page, until you get someone else to write your games, they will continue to have shit storylines.

Revengence actually looks fun to play.  New Star Wars is Star Uncharted Wars, but could be good?  And, of course, Dishonoured looks fantastic, Hitman 10 minute gameplay video sold me and XCOMmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Most of the conferences sucked, Ubi's was the best, if only because of the games.

This is a weak fucking year, because it's the Before New Consoles Are Officially Announced year.  The most interesting stuff is the Giant Bomb nightly podcasts, cause those are always guaranteed crazy.

Yeah, about that.

Looks like a total blast. So, there's one more in the WiiU's favor.

I don't spend much time thinking about Nintendo these days, but in recent years I've been very disappointed with what they've come to stand for as a company. A controller should be accurate, intuitive and ergonomic. It should perform a wide a range of functions will being as simple to use as possible. That, and better graphics, are all I want from a new system. I just don't have time for gimmicks. Some of their core franchises remain strong, but others are creatively stagnant. I want to buy the system that will let me play most of the best games while being easy to use. I don't want to buy a system where every port I am lucky enough to play has been confused with awkward mechanics and controls in order to translate it to Ninendo's oddball set up. In this economy I can't buy more than one videogame system, and so Nintendo loses out on my dollar.

I love how Microsoft rolls out this great new ESPN app for the 360 ... that requires a cable subscription.

That's pretty much MS' MO, Richard. I recently let my Live subscription expire for the first time and don't plan on going back because I don't feel like paying a fee to access other things that require fees.

By far and large I am not a PC gamer but if consoles keep heading down the paths they are then I'll either have to abandon a 26-year hobby or make the switch.

So, there was one AAA non-MMO strategy game, and it'd kind of an action game to?

Dammit.

The X-COM brand doesn't exactly have a great track record outside the original.

MS has absolutely no control over that. That's the TV networks gimping the service to protect their cable paychecks.

So Dishonoured is a steampunk Deus Ex Human Revolution?

Oh my oh my. I fucking really have to watch that gameplay trailer after work today.

Naval warfare in AC3 looks like a lot of fun, but there's every chance I may be Dishonoureds bitch by the time it rolls around at the end of October.
