Good premiere, stoked about John C. McGinley next week.

Gosh, I've enjoyed this show since the beginning. I enjoyed the episode last night. I don't know how spoiler-free we should make our comments as the show just aired, so some might not have seen it yet - so I'll hide mine.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Not surpirsed that Anson got away again. The big bads usually don't stay around more than a season or 2, but I sort of expect Anson to get taken down at the mid-point this season. (At the end of the summer.)

What sometimes irritates me about this show is how much they still do let the main characters get away with and not go to jail. Yes, Micheal is trying to do things to save people, but he steals and blow up a truck, then causes an incident at a chemical company.

Even worse, Fiona was arrested and is being interogated for a crime she didn't commit, but also in the process confessed to a crime she DID commit, which is blowing up the embassy. Even if cleared of the charge of killing the gaurds, shouldn't she go to jail for the attack, even if it was to get rid of Larry?

On the non-spoilery side of things: Anyone else out there thinking that Micheal and Agent Pearce have some chemistry going. My hope is Fiona is in prison long enough for Micheal to "accidently'" fall into bed with Pearce. The see some real fireworks when Fi gets out!

It was OK I guess though the dead man's switch thing kinda reeked.

It did, and Sam running out in slow motion was cheesy even for Burn Notice.  Just lots of things felt off to me.  Fiona being so easily manipulated into thinking Michael was dead.  Anson contacting Michael because he realized the road block was a Michael kind of thing to do (I buy that, but how the hell did Anson know that the roadblock was a vehicle on fire from a few miles back?  There's now way that news would have been on the radio already).

I did like Maddie's little side arc but the main story just felt weird to me.

Never thought I'd get emotional over an episode of Burn Notice, but damn. Seeing Michael cry was pretty darn powerful stuff.

Yeah that might've been the best episode of the entire series. The cons & contraptions were fun, and the stories mixed humor and emotion very well. Diggin this season so far.

Heck, even Sam Axe had a tearful moment last night. Loved it.

Well, that was a heckuva episode. I forgot that this was the "Someone's not making it out alive!" episode.

I also didn't realize USA allowed the word "asshole". I am shocked, I do declare!

Really strong season so far. Makes me hope they either end the series soon, or really shake up the premise. I wouldn't want it to slide vack to the wheel-spinning days of yore.

Loved the boomstick reference!

Well I think everyone knew who was going to bite it, but Burn Notice executed it extremely well with a bit of a twist.. and this is like two episodes where I've teared up.

Is Jeffrey Donovan going for an emmy nomination or what? His tears bring me to tears.

Neaux agreed.

I didn't know someone was gonna die so it surprised me. This was a breath of fresh air. This show has my attention again. Boomstick!

DVR malfunction coming out of that final commercial break...I get that Nate died, but what happened to Anson?  By the time signal came back, it was everyone looking around, but I thought I saw his body on the ground.  Who shot who?

"Asshole" on Burn Notice? Hell, the cast of Covert Affairs has been swearing up a storm since the third season started. Incidentally, the third season of Covert Affairs might actually be worth watching. And SeventyOne? Anson's really dead. He checked out before Nate. But the identity of the shooter is still unknown. Really strong episode, by the way.

I think even White Collar has thrown in one or two 'assholes' this season, but I'd have to re-watch the last three episodes to make sure.

I'm fully back on board now. All three of the US shows I'm watching now seem to be going well. I started thinking about giving Suits another chance.

Well if anything the last 5 minutes of Burn Notice this season has pretty much been awesome.  I can't wait to find out more about Mr. Gray! I mean Tyler Gray.

Well that was quite a satisfying summer finale with stuff blowin up real good. I just hate they teased us with all these cool gadgets that we never saw in action.

Surprisingly I might have enjoyed the drama bits betweet Michael and his mom more than the mission. Good episode.

Yeah, the show has ramped up nicely the last couple of seasons. I hope they don't reset things too quickly, as it sounds pretty fun to have the whole team presumed dead.

Wonder if Gray's gonna join the Burn gang. I mean, yeah, he shot Nate, but that seemed like collateral damage, the real target being Anson. And what are they gonna do with Gray, anyway? Can't really turn him in. Michael probably won't kill him.

Thought it was kinda stupid of Card to make up bullshit off the top of his head about how they were tracking Gray in an alley. Should've just said "Stand down, we got this," instead of going into a specific lie that Michael would immediately know was bullshit.

Jesse and the no shoes/hobo shoes was gold. Coby Bell has 100 times the charisma of Donovan anyway and if they wanted to kill off Michael and promote Jesse to the lead I wouldn't feel much of a sting.

Anyone else kinda expecting Maddie to find out something about Card at the office and call Michael like "It's a trap!"

Jesse is awesome because most of his dialogue is matter of fact and usually speaks to what the audience is thinking.  Like the whole time he was sans shoes, I kept wanting him to steal somebody's shoes. The end result was super hilarious.

Enjoyed last night's episode, and while I've watched Burn Notice from the beginning, I still enjoy the micro- so much more than the macro-. I enjoy the hardcore spy-rig toys, the MacGyver/James Bond portions.

All of this, "Oh no, there's yet another super-secret person behind the curtain" is like the show 24 -- oh no, there's a mole at Division (again). I prefer the simple, "Michael's-Mom's-Cousin's-Former-Prison-Cellmate's-Hairdresser's-Daughter-was-scammed-out-of-money-by-the-local-hood" storylines of previous seasons.

It is what it is, and I'll be with it 'till the end, but the old days of thermite and cathode-tube X-ray machines were better than the stuff they do now, which seems to be, "Fi-brings-C4." (This week's big thing was running up a ramp?!)

As much as I love Kenny Johnson, I figured his character was kept alive to give the show options for the next-season premiere (they can interrogate him to learn about Card, they can have more discussion and drama about whether to kill him in cold blood, he could have some way to get out of Panama that they exploit...), etc.

The only things I can imagine happening to Tyler Grey by the end of the next premiere are (A) death (probably not at Michael's hands, even though Mike has killed before, and this guy would really deserve it), (B) imprisonment (at which point, he'd probably be off the show as much as Robert Wisdom or Garret Dillahunt are, able to come back for guest spots if needed), or (C) escape, and they've already done a plotline about hunting him down.

I guess they could end up in some situation like Victor or Anson, where he or some other enemy gets some leverage on the group, and Grey becomes their new contact. Preferably, for at least half-a-season. We need more Shield supporting-alumni on television.

Jesse is also awesome because he really gets into character, like when he was blackmailing the rifle guy and took him to the strip club. Jesse acted the perfect douchebro. I kinda like Michael better when he does some ridiculous character, preferably someone dumb with an accent. I hate his condescending cadence in the voiceovers. I know it's supposed to come off like a veteran spy coaching a n00b spy, but it's like, "As a spy, you always have to blahblahblah, or else you find yourself blahblahblah." One reason I liked the Sam Axe movie was that Sam narrated and I'm always for Bruce narrating anything.

Incidentally I only recently picked this up via reruns and caught up on seasons 5 and 6, got hooked. I rack on Donovan but he's all right. He's the somewhat colorless center for all the more colorful supporting characters to surround. Like the AV Club guy, I was dreading the return of Furiously Mourning Maggie, but Gless does sell the shit out of her grief. I was gonna ask if Tyne Daly was ever gonna show up in an episode, but I guess she did, in an episode I missed.

Consider me on the Jesse wagon now too.  At first, I was not a fan of him.  He interrupted the dynamic, was horribly bland and super "emo".  He has grown to be a favorite character, second only to Sam.  The actor and character are incredibly charismatic when they allow him to be and he cracks me up.

It took me a while to burn through a 2 hour episode, but I must say that the writers are upping their game and having been keeping me guessing all season long. Just when I thought we might get a Tyler Grey addition, that didn't turn out to well did it?

I'm excited to see where it goes next week, now that Card is out of the picture too.

Not a bad start this second half.  Skinny Queen Latifah is grating, but I like the energy and momentum the show seems to have right now.

I like the addition of Kima to the show, but I don't know why she's decided to overact so much.

Pretty quiet thread.  Kind of puzzled by this.  I love this back-half so much.  I would say it's some of the best Burn Notice we've ever had.  It is non-stop and I am eating up every minute of it.

Does the show still involve Michael running around solving peoples problems with with overly complicated scenarios that leave him and his loved ones exposed with his trigger happy ex-girlfriend and him miss every gun shot they take? If so that might be why the thread is a bit quiet.

Nope. At least half and half. They're playing around with the format a bit.

What Stelios said.

Honestly, not a ton has happened in the past few episodes to warrant much discussion about the story.  However, the focus and format have been tweaked enough that the show feels fresh and exciting.  And again, moreso than it ever has.  I never considered Burn Notice to be exciting television - just fun and disposable.  This season has been truly exciting. Stakes are raised, people are dying and it's a little less predictable.

That's why I stopped watching. Because no matter what was going on, they'd find time for the case of the week and intercut it with the main story arc (one that has for the past few years pretty much circled the drain) exactly 4 times. No more no less. It actually became somewhat ridiculous. So if the format really has changed, that's good news.

We have another 2 hour finale coming up and from the previews, looks like lots of action and shit blowing up. I'm in!

Yeah this second half was weird.  2-hour premiere, few episodes and 2-hour finale.

And they are renewed for only a 13 episode 7th (?) season.  I pray that means it's the end.  I wouldn't mind if the show ended now.
