ASM is better than PROMETHEUS.

Easily.

Undoubtedly

You people are fucking crazy.

I'm torn...  PROMETHEUS started off with great visuals and good characterization (at least in Fassbender and Elba) and degenerated into pretentiousness and poor storytelling.  ASM, though, started off with terrible characterization and bizarre narrative choices but actually came alive for me with the second half's Spidey-action sequences until derailed by that god awful "promises you can't keep are the best kind" bit.  Both, for me, are crap movies with fleeting moments of inspiration -- which can be even more upsetting than being flat-out terrible.

I actually think both suck, but ASM was more a of "Meh, sucked like I thought it would" and PROMETHEUS actively made me angry.

But really, I was just poking at nooj.

No, I don't think Amazing Spider-Man has anything as good in its chamber as David.

Prometheus: It's a bit better than the Amazing Spider-Man. Like, a tad.

I'm tired of all this cutesy bullshit.

When does Peter start wrapping people up in web and eating them? When are four more appendages gonna burst from his torso?

CHRONENBERG! CHRONENBERG!!

*sits quietly in the corner, thinking neither of them sucked, but they definitely have problems*

Yes, I was going to point out David too. Plus, Prometheus is a beautiful looking film that is undeniably the product of a filmmaker with a great control of his craft. Scenes like the med pod sequence, or, well, anyway, those scenes deliver on a level far beyond Amazing Spiderman's most amazing ambitions.

Prometheus also has generally incredible production design, where as Amazing Spiderman has only an improved suit.

NO MODERATE DISCOURSE! THEY'RE THE BEST EVER OR THE WORST THING SINCE ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT SYPHILIS.

Disputed. ASM!Spider-Man doesn't look as good as Raimi!Spider-Man ten years ago. It looks like a basketball grew legs and became a figure skater.

It is definitely subjective but I love the texture. It is very basketball like, as you say. Also the eye pieces look like Parker disassembled a pair of Oakleys and incorporated them into the face mask.

Both movies are failures, but Prometheus had ambition; and while it might be a mess, it most certainly is not a boring one.

ASM however?  It's definitely a ticket to snooze town. It's a safe, lazy reboot that deserves every fucking bit of scorn it received. FUCK THAT MOVIE.

...so, someone only says misogyny here if there's a picture of Sofia Vergara's bosom as well, right?

I would argue MJ is a misogynist creation, the production of nerd wish fulfillment. The super model that mopes after the nice guy! Still, if I spoke too flippantly I apologize. I've just never liked the character for her selfishness, and no writer has ever been able to salvage her for me. Gwen in the original comics, I would argue, is also a cypher and Emma Stone's sassy intellect is the only thing that makes her a worthy character now.

This is an interesting read for anyone still interested....

I thought it was kind of great. Certainly no Spiderman 2, but beats the pants off of (Raimi's) Spiderman 1 or 3. Plenty of wonky bits, but I think the sequel will be special.

"Promises you don't keep" is kind of a fucked up thing to go out on but, you know, teenage hormones and all that. I'm sure it'll set up a brutal payoff in part 2. Didn't mind the post-credits teaser either. More of a classic "to be continued" sort of deal than a Marvel "NOW look who it is!" thing.

Yup. And as a non-comic book fan, it hit me on about the same level as the (1st) post-credits stinger in the Avengers. Which is to say, not at all.

I've found that I've gone back to this movie way more than the other comic book flicks of 2012 (save Dredd, because Dredd is AMAZING). Garfield is ACES in this flick, and he's built a really solid foundation with both Stone and Sally Field. Yeah "promises you can't keep" was worrisome, but I'll let it go if they do in part 2.

I'm cautiously excited for the sequel, based on the talent involved, and hopefully being out of the shadow of the Raimi movies. Really, the only warning flag for me is Orci and Kurtzman (granted, it's a GIANT warning, but still....optimism!)

So is Edward Cullen a misandrist creation? People throw around the word misogyny like it's a damn linking verb. Sorry, Scriven, I've been wanting to say that for awhile and snatched the most convenient opportunity. I've never even seen the subject of this thread.

When's there going to be an article on the main page about the first pics of Jamie Foxx as Electro, so we can bemoan them in the corresponding thread?!

I tried submitting it first thing this morning, but the scoop submission page is broken.

Let's complain anyway. It's fucking terrible.

They traded Electro's awesome mask for a hoodie?!

...maybe I need to see the hoodie in motion but until then, what the shit?!

I don't even understand what they were thinking with the Electro design, especially the odd LED-lit hoodie. Sure, the original version is maybe a little goofy but I'm sure a good costume designer could have found a way to update it for this movie. The design they've gone with looks like a Sith Lord who likes to pimp up his outfits.

If this follows standard operating procedures for a superhero film the hoodie look will come early then Electro will get some sort of textured rubber get-up later in the film.

I'm pretty sure the lights will be removed in post. They're just there to give him a glowy look, even in darkness.

But yeah. He looks like Abe Sapien. Or a fuckin' Na'vi.

God, I hope you're right Sebastian.

Hey look it's Batman and Robin's Mr. Freeze!

I know next to nothing about baseball but obviously Marvel has greater faith in Sammy Sosa's acting abilities than I can speak for.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

Suit #1: "I've noticed something."

Suit #2: "What's that?"

Suit #1: "All of the supervillains in movies? They're boring white guys."

Suit #2: "Yeah, you're right!"

Suit #1: "I mean, that's cool, right? But let's do something new with this Spider-man sequel."

Suit #2: "Like what?"

Suit #1: "Like hiring Jamie Foxx for our supervillain..."

Suit #2: "Great idea."

Suit #1: "..and coloring him blue."

It looks goofy but I very much doubt the hoodie is his super villain costume, it's probably just used in a scene where Electro is trying to walk about unnoticed.

New Yorker: Hey, what's with the blue light emanating from that dude's hoodie?

New Yorker 2: Dude, you think it's the new iPhone?

New Yorker: How the fuck did he get it so fast?

New Yorker 2: Don't know. Let's go jack it and beat his ass to the floor.

Can't say I was expecting them to have Jamie Foxx wear a giant star bolt over his face. Not sure if this is the right direction either but let's not kid ourselves, the original Electro design looked mighty stupid too.

XTREME UNCLE FESTER.

Doctor Manhattan inspired design works for me.

That'd be my guess as well.

Honestly, I kind of like this design. But then again, I did enjoy ASM more than most.

I like the look but I really enjoy Ultimate Spider-Man and it is pretty much lifted right out of that.

NO IT'S NOT!  He's yellow in that book, stoopid!

Good lord. If this is what they are doing to Electro then what the heck is the Rhino going to look like? Or do you think they are going to add CGI effects where he appears like he is constantly giving off electricity or sparking like in some versions?

It'll just be Paul Giamatti with grey face paint, and a rhinoceros-themed hoodie.

It's an Iron Man mech suit, or he'll literally be gene spliced into a Rhino man.  Who's betting on what?

Gene-spliced Rhino man with a mech suit.

And a hoodie.

With LEDs on his horn.

I think I know why Marvel went with this look for Electro.  Call it a hunch...heh.  ETA: I've changed the pic.  Feel a bit uncomfortable using someone else's image.  Created a comparison shot of my own with images I've gleaned from the NYDaily and here: DC Comics Database

I think Kyler may be referring to the cartoon?
