Actors you associate with cities

Obviously Woody Allen is Mr. New York, but I also always think Bill Murray feels the most right in movies set in New York.

Honestly, the first one I thought of was John Hughes for Chicago and surrounding suburbs.

Directors are easier to connect to a city though. Actors are tougher. Bill Murray just almost always feels like a guy from New York in his movies. Same with De Niro and Pesci and to a lesser extent Ray Liotta. Henry Hill is probably his most famous and best role, but I don't automatically think New York when I see him.

Mark Whalberg I associate with Boston even more than I do Damon and Affleck.

Hah, because of Kevin Smith, I think New Jersey with Affleck, but that's changing with the Boston movies he's directed.

I just always remember Damon and Affleck coming up together as friends in Boston, Good Will Hunting and all. Kevin Smith isn't really on my radar these days, but back when I watched his films more regularly New Jersey would have occurred to me too.

Haha, here is one: Adrien Grenier and Queens.

That's an odd one Cameron. Bill's my favourite actor but I've never associated him with any one place. I know he's from Chicago but his characters feel more minor city to me if anything, like he's from Boise or Pittsburgh or Omaha. He's perfect in Ghostbusters of course but to me he's at least as "right-feeling" in Groundhog Day and Kingpin.

I base it on movies like Ghostbusters 1 and 2, Stripes, Quick Change, What About Bob?, Scrooged and Mad Dog and Glory.

I wouldn't have thought of Stripes as a movie set in New York. It could be I missed your point a little too, since even though I brought up Ghostbusters as an NYC movie he doesn't seem like a New York guy in it. Or at least not a native - it's not like everyone in NYC was born there and has an accent after all. Mostly though it's probably that I'm such a sucker for Bill that when you throw out a phrase like "(he) feels the most right in movies set in New York", I think of the aforementioned Groundhog Day and Kingpin, along with your Lost In Translations and your Rushmores and your 97.6% of Stripes and to me Bill feels just as right in those films as in any of his others.
