OZ GETS A GREAT AND POWERFUL POSTER

Sam Raimi's trip over the rainbow has a poster.

I was already sold due to my love for Raimi, but Kunis, Weisz, and Michelle Williams as the witches officially gave my excitement level a shot in the arm.

From the poster and the synopsis this seems like Raimi channeling Gilliam. I'm so very, very OK with that.

I really wish studios would stop putting the word visionary in marketing campaigns.  Ugh.

So judging by the designs this is more a prequel to the 1939 musical than it is a prequel to the original book.

Yes that is clearly not a silver city.

With that said, this is my favorite poster in a long time. I'm not interested in this movie, but the marketing team deserves some props for this one.

Didn't know anything about this other then 'Raimi does Oz'. Once I realized I wouldn't be getting a campy prison rape movie, I checked out the synopsis. I am intrigued.

Well the trees in OZ can come to life......

Gorgeous poster. My interest just went from "nonexistent" to "piqued".

I wasn't really interested in this  but I have to say that is a fine fun cast. And the poster is great. And Depp not being in it is greater.

As uninterested as I am in the film, you can't help but appreciate a proper, painted film poster these days. That thing is gorgeous.

He had my sword from the start but now he has my axe.

This movie is already the anti-JOHN CARTER, a movie I was beyond pumped for until I saw the first shit posters.

I don't even know what this could possibly be like. I'm imaging under anyone else, it would be absolutely horrible. But it's Raimi, he knows his stuff.

I still don't know why this film exists though, as opposed to something based on the books or an adaptation of Wicked, which appears to cover the same ground.

It started life as a vehicle to allow RDJ to continue to cultivate his lovable rogue image, playing a brash con man who ends up the ruler of a mystical land. And Disney's wanted to do SOMETHING with the potential goldmine that is the Oz books since Lord of the Rings and Narnia. Downey courted Raimi then bailed, and Raimi hung onto it and got it made. I've been following this one for a while, as I've always loved the world of Oz (Return to Oz is woefully underappreciated) and feel like this would be a better use of Raimi's talents than a Warcraft movie (which almost happened before RDJ scooped him up for this).

I wouldn't take this as a direct tie in to the Judy Garland film, by the way--just because the city is emerald doesn't made it so. Return to Oz featured both an Emerald City and ruby slippers and couldn't have been more different than the 1939 musical. Case in point: Princess Mumby's Hall of Shrieking Heads.

Yeah, I love Return to Oz. I'm just concerned as this could go the way of Alice in Wonderland. Was this shot on location or is it stagebound?

It's Raimi, so I don't see him pulling a Hook and sticking this whole thing in a stage. It'll be a combination, I'm sure.

IMDb only has some stages in Michigan listed, but I can't imagine that tells a complete story.

I hope this movie features a lot of Raimi cutting-loose the way he did with Drag Me to Hell... which he did without going R-rated!

C'mon Sam!  Push the 'likely' PG-13 for all it's worth!

So sad that 10 years ago you'd be saying the opposite of that statement.

I can't wait to see what Raimi does with the flying monkeys. Mark my words, Franco is going to take a massive beating from them.

It's strange that the live action Oz films are Great (capital G) movies (Return to Oz is an awesome movie) and yet Hollywood has somehow avoided running them into the ground.

I think Raimi is the perfect choice for a new Oz film. I kinda of wish RDJ had stuck around though.

As much as RDJ's exit might be seen as a detriment, this may be a blessing in disguise. He's been doing his loveable huckster routine in two major franchises (three if you count AVENGERS separately). This may have been one too many trips to the well. I'm up for giving Franco a chance, if he brings the charm, it'll work.

Totally with you on how good Return to OZ is.  I have no doubt Rami has this film in mind with his take on the franchise.

I wonder if Franco will repeat his Spidey3 Internet Meme "sooooooo goooooood!"

Still one of the funniest videos I've ever watched online.

haha I've never seen that! "Acting with Bill Paxton's dad." is classic.

"You ever see Crimewave?  NEWSFLASH: Ya can't!"

Franco is SUCH a weird choice for this. Almost as weird as "pharmaceutical scientist" (wait, now I get it, the drug connection). And that turned out fairly good.

But I love the OZ property and Raimi, so it gets the benefit of the doubt from me.
