Bane's dead?

What's weird is that the "Gotham Knight" anime DVD they put out around the time of TDK's release had a segment that was basically "Gotham Central". Only they replaced Montoya with the movie's Ramirez.

I figure they didn't want to sully Renee Montoya's character by the fact that her film counterpart, Ramirez, was bent.

As dead as Harvey Dent, and all the ridiculous theorizing that ensued with his death in TDK.

That surprised me as well. Was she still alive at the end of TDK?

She wins the coin flip. Two-Face just decks her.

Bane took that batpod cannon shot way better than the pile of cars did. Last time you see him, he's still in one piece.

Well, I saw Bane breathing for a split second.  And they never confirmed he was dead.  And we never heard his heart stop beating like the end of Godzilla.  And we never saw a funeral.  He's alive!

What's left of Bane ought to be dripping down the walls, if he took a direct hit... Say, maybe he did survive! I smell a spin-off feature.

Exactamundo.

His little vest thing was cannon-proof!  BANE LIVES!

Somewhere in the Pacific, on an exotic beach, Bane is chilling next to Kathleen Turner from Body Heat on a lounge chair, laughing his ass off and drinking a margarita.

See, now you have me envisioning Bane on a beach with Dan Aykroyd:

"Looking good, Bane!"

"Feeling good, Louis!"

Has Nolan said if there are any deleted scenes or a Director's Cut for this?

He doesn't put out deleted scenes or director's cuts.

Yeah, I think he's been quoted as saying what you see on the screen IS his director's cut. Thank God for that. He puts what he wants up there and stands by it.

Turns out that Bane's attack on the Gotham Stock Exchange was just a diversion to corner the market on frozen orange juice.

Though to be fair I think that the intro to TDKR is meant to scream THIS IS A JAMES BOND STYLE PRE-CREDIT SEQUENCE.

Hey, I've been bitching ever since the prologue! ;)

And the opening dialogue in TDK always felt strangely forced to me, as well, as if a weird little short was shot and tacked onto the beginning.

Yeah, especially the bus driver. He rattles off three one-liners in a row:

"School's out; time to go! That guy's not gettin' up, is he? That's a lotta money!"

It's very apparent now how quick that exchange is. I think sometimes Nolan's editor is pushing the limit on how to time compress.

One of those clowns was Blossom's brother. Who knew that Nolan was a closet Blossom fan.

Which one? Joey, or the older brother who was a recovering alcoholic who came home to make amends?

Uh, I mean... what's Blossom?

Now I'm just imaging Bane walking up to Randolph Duke in the stretcher and telling him he now has permission to die.

This makes me think that even if it wasn't 'part of the plan', maybe The Joker would have shot that guy anyway just for being annoying. So much for a ceremonious 1000th post. I'm spending it talking about how much a clown sucks. cool.gif

Gonna be seeing this at the IMAX (70mm film) for a 2nd time tonight.

What a fool I am.

But I'm going with three others who haven't seen the movie yet.

I will be there... EVERY STEP OF THE WAY... telling them why they shouldn't be enjoying the movie.  I will be a POX on their moviegoing experience.

Great, so you're going to be THAT GUY, mcnooj.

Oh yea!

Behold the destroyed faces I leave in my path!!!

Are you going to tell them there's something at the end of the credits?  Only to laugh in their faces when they sit through the credits and there's nothing there?

Oooh. I'ma jot that down!

You're a monster, mcnooj!  A monster!

mcnooj talks the game of a hater, but just watch. He's coming back from the now mythical second viewing spackled with Nolan's man-milk.

I just got back from seeing this thing a second time. The beginning feels more paced out than what I had originally thought was rushed. Granted, there's a ton of information that the audience has to pick up in those 45 minutes to an hour. But damn it this movie still works gangbusters.

I will personally spit that man-milk into the soft drinks of each and every member of the audience and bring them all to Bat-ruin!!!!

So the 2nd viewing did nothing for me.  It didn't take away or add to the movie.

This time, the movie just felt longer and the WHEREZZZ DA TRIGGRRRRRRR scene more gut-busting.

I still liked the stuff I liked and found the whole to be a general dud.

As I've mentioned before, my problem with the film was never any specific instance of plot holes and moments requiring excessive amounts of the suspension of disbelief.  It's really just something about the way the whole thing is put together that leaves me cold.

But then, I can also be a really stubborn doofus.

WHEREZ NOLANZ MAN-MILK???  WHERE IZZZZIIIIIIITTT????  I DIDN'T GET ANYYYY!!!

So what is the result for this conversation...

I got a copy of the shooting script and the novelization. There's a small part of the Selina/Bruce ballroom scene that didn't make the transition to the screen (I think).

Has anyone praised the gunfire strobe-light shot where we see Batman get closer and closer to camera and take out one of Bane's goons?

BECAUSE THAT WAS COOL.

Would've loved to see more stuff like that if they were gonna play up Batman's abilities at all (like the return of the upside down "behind you" takedown).

Instead of just PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH.

See?  I take this movie down even as I praise it.  That's how good I am.

Also, tell me when Bruce had the opportunity to meet up with an estate lawyer to get all his ducks in order for this "fake his death" plan he must've had planned for a long long time.  Giving Wayne Manor to the orphan home (he can be DC's Professor Xavier!), sending Blake the coordinates, getting a new Bat-signal made...)  You know what the movie needed?  THIS:

I WOULD make a very handsome throwrug.

And should I ever get dirty, you can take me out and beat me.

With both hands, c'mon!

Saw this this past weekend. I didn't hate it in general, and quite liked parts of it, but this movie has some pretty massive problems keeping it from being something I could call "good" without reservation. I'll probably say more once I'm done reading this thread. But my opinion could probably be summed up with this pithy remark: Max Fisher's "The Dark Knight Rises".

It was a fun time in the theatre, but nothing that I feel that I'll ever need to see again like The Dark Knight.

Caught this last night.  Kept waiting for Daggett to say "maniacal laugh" his character was so thin.  Even though I knew who Miranda Tate was going to be I was crestfallen when Bane was revealed to be nothing more than a henchman.  Quite literally he was Vader to Talia's Emperor yet he was denied any sort of redemption.  Does that mean there can be no redemption for the enduring symbol of Batman?

I quite enjoyed the film in a popcorn manner up to that point.  I didn't get on well with Hathaway either; I don't think she nailed her character or the Nolan's didn't give her much to really solidify Kyle.

For some reason my favorite image from the film was when Bruce brought back the stock exchange dongle with the trade info.  Seeing Bale in full costume without the cowl just struck me as a pretty perfect comic book scene.

Since everything else has been discussed, I'd just like to point out that, as a PrIson Break fan (I know, I know, I know) it was nice to see Bellick finally get Warden Pope's old job.

This has been discussed already, but Bane is clearly more than just a henchmen. He's the LoS's field commander, the same role Bruce was being groomed for. I don't know what you're on about it with the whole "redemption" thing. He's not looking for redemption, he's a full-on believer in an apocalyptic cult and was fully prepared to die with Talia in a nuclear fire.

Sorry I wasn't trying to intimate that Bane wanted redemption.  There was a slight glimpse in Bane's eyes, I believe, when Talia left him there.  He was her protector, her lover perhaps?  Then he gets blown to hell with nothing to show for his entire build up.  What I was trying to say was that he and Bruce are both LoS trained "generals" or field commanders as you say.  If Bane has no redemption of any sort, even to show that his mindless violence was in service to his love for Talia more than we got then does the statue unveiled at the end offer any similar redemption for the idea of Batman since they are both cut from the same cloth so to speak.  I know Bruce rejected the Leagues ways but the "enduring symbol of Batman" must also then have no hope for redemption from whatever past sets each new person to don the cape and cowl to find the closure they seek.

Full disclosure:  I am quite possibly talking out my ass as I saw the film late last night and have had little time today to actually digest it.
