FOX THROWING GALACTUS AND HIS HERALD BACK AT MARVEL TO BUY TIME FOR… JOE CARNAHAN’S DAREDEVIL?!

Rumored negotiations between Fox and Marvel reveal big news on both sides.
This comes as very, very exciting news. May the Devourer of Worlds never be a frigging cloud again.

It'd be weird to use him as an Avengers villain, considering he's basically a Fantastic Four baddie. I mean, there are some great Thor stories with Galactus, not much other than that.

Marvel film's baddies haven't impressed me, Galactus is a cool out of this world villain, hopefully they can get it right.

This. I was so disappointed by that reveal.

Yes the cloud was dumb.

But I can't see them putting that guy's design unchanged on the big screen without getting some big laughs.

I don't envy Fox having to deal with Disney's Lawyers.

As I understand it, Fox's lawyers are cuddly teddy bears.

Not exactly true?

Any interesting Daredevil villains we'd like to see in Marvel movies? Kingpin, bullseye  and ... ?

If this makes a film version of Beta Ray Bill: Godhunter a possibility, I'm all for it.

I think I'd rather Disney get Daredevil than Galactus

Dear Jeebus, please let Disney get back Daredevil and make Whedon re-capture the Angel magic for said show.

Oh they're both the worst.

At this point, Fox would be stupid to make a film out of any Marvel property without them offering Disney a chance to co-finance it, and therefor allowing it to be part of the Marvel Universe.

So, in other words, Fox won't offer Disney the chance.

Marvel superheroes generally have really weak rogues galleries, partly because the "Share Universe" allowed them to import villains from more successful books (Basically Spiderman). Daredevil is the best example of this, over half of the first twenty issues of his book featured guest stars. His only real villain of note is Bullseye. Kingpin and Shocker are from Spiderman, and Mole-Man is a Fantastic Four villain. I guess there is Stilt-Man.

Kingpin started as a Spider-man villain but for purposes of the movies I think he's consider a Daredevil one.

I'm finding this all fascinating. I think a Daredevil film or series of films could fill a gap that the end of Nolan's Batman trilogy leaves wide open in terms of theme and tone, and Disney/Marvel would have to have big plans for "Cosmic Marvel" if they want Galactus and the Surfer badly enough to pass up the opportunity to have Matt Murdock and company back.

That FOX now disputes the rumors of any trade suggests that FOX is confident they can produce another tone-deaf failure of a Daredevil movie with the remaining time they have.

Just gimme Nuke, and I'm happy.

I really don't care about Daredevil, and would love seeing Doctor Doom vs The Avengers.  I'm all for it.

I don't get it, all Fox has to do to keep Daredevil is begin production before Oct.10.  That doesn't mean they have to begin a full shooting schedule from that point, they just have to roll cameras.  They could literally shoot a single camera angle of an exterior of a building; and that would count, close down and then continue pre-production proper.  Spielberg did something similar on Close Encounters.  Somebody fire Fox's decision makers.

If Fox is really considering swapping Galactus for Daredevil, it's like throwing back four aces in poker because you're hoping to get a second jack.

But Daredevil can be grrrritty!

Let Fox keep Galactus and the Surfer, so Marvel gets Daredevil back...because we will never see this onscreen:

I was thinking that Thanos was going to be a dud with audiences. Too goofy, and not intimidating enough for people in this day and age to take seriously. Galactus, with his plot to eat the earth, is based on a more primal fear and I think will work better. Hopefully they dump Thanos for good now that they have Galactus to play with.

As much as I want all characters to revert back to Marvel, I'm all for Carnahan directing a superhero flick. Might as well be "Batman-lite".

I still think Iron Fist and Power Man can fill in the Daredevil niche for Marvel Studios.

I really want the FF universe back to Marvel.

Dr Harford, You can even tie in a neat environmental message.  Don't let global warming happen.  If The Earth is too warm, Galactus will eat it like a perfectly cooked...Swanson's TV Dinner!  For dessert he might even eat the moon!

Yeah, because a giant purple guy with a giant helmet who eats planets and has a naked silver guy riding around on a surf board as his slave is sooooooooooo not goofy.

This may or may not be true. I'm not sure anyone knows exactly what criteria have to be met for these contracts to be extended.

And I'm with Dickson ... just get Daredevil. Yes, it's grim and gritty, which everyone seems to be tired of, but I like that character and I like the Hell's Kitchen slice of the Marvel Universe pie. The Avengers was great fun, and I'm on board with all the cosmic kookiness they're cooking up with Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers 2 and whatnot. But can't we balance that out by also having some Matt-Murdoch-breaking-legs-in-dark-alley-style shenanigans?

Also, I need me a Marvel Knights team-up movie.* I need it.

*Moon Knight participation required.

So they are willing to torpedo their pending F4 reboot franchise just for more time to get Daredevil up and running?  Weird.  Don't get me wrong, Doctor Doom can easily run for a film or two (probably with some lackeys in the second), but where do you go from there if the new Fantastic Four films are successful enough?

That aside, a Joe Carnahan Daredevil is an exciting proposal.  Frank Grillo as Bullseye, I'm guessing?

Fantastic Four has much more promise beyond Galactus and Silver Surfer. Come on now.

This is coming from someone who LOOOOOOOOVES Galactus and the Surfer.

I'm not saying that it doesn't.  I just find it odd that they would be willing to part ways with them just to keep Daredevil in house, when up until a year ago they seemed to have no desire to do a damn thing with Matt Murdock until the deadline started looming.

Again, it's self-preservation. It's not that Fox wants Daredevil profits, it's that they don't want Disney to reap Daredevil profits.

So I'm guessing the deadline on letting the rights sit is 7 years?  It's been that many since Elektra hit screens.  By that reckoning, they have until 2014 to get a Fantastic Four film in production and that's plenty of time.

Honestly, I really don't care who owns what as long as I get a good film out of it.  Carnahan is a nice fit for Daredevil and, while I haven't seen Chronicle, it sounds like Josh Trank is a solid man for the job on Fantastic Four.  While it's too early to tell just yet, it sounds like Fox might finally be pulling their head out of their ass when it comes to their superhero properties.

Gabe T, You're right.  Terrax The Tamer could lead Galactus to...Galador, where he will meet...ROM Greatest Of All Spaceknights!  The Spaceknight Squadron vs Galactus would be...Awesome!
